WILL LIVE IN YOUR HEART
Dear Paul, Rita and Friends,
Greetings! The sun is shining bright this morning after a long time
behind the clouds. We did not get any snow yesterday but it was windy
and cold. I was at the last day of the seminar last evening and a good
group turned up. The first speaker took almost all the time for the
evening but he showed us how the Lord has intervened in his life more
than once. This evening I will be at one of my neighbours for the
meeting of the Small Christian Community. We'll be a dozen if all show
up.
In my prayer this morning, Jesus dealt with two problems which many
people have. He began by saying, "Melvin, I love you. I live in your
heart. For many people to believe and to pray is a struggle. Their faith
is not strong with the result that they are filled with doubt. Often
they will see that there is something in their life that is
disconnected. An example would be: a person believes in me but does not
follow my teachings as regards marriage. Sometimes these people go
through years of living a double life. It is true that many people have
doubts at times but all should see that doubting is not the same as not
believing. My advice to these people is this: go and see someone who has
great faith and speak to him or her about your problem. I will help you
through that person who is close to me. There are, my people, priests
and Christians everywhere who are close to me. It is by talking to one
of these about your doubt that they can be resolved. If prayer is a
problem, then examine your conscience and see why this is so. The
problem is not out there but inside you. There is something in your way
of life that blocks your relationship with me. Remove that blockage and
prayer will be possible. Often the problem is an area of your life which
is sinful and you have not repented of it. After you have repented, you
will open to me and I will come and live in your heart. Then prayer will
flow from your heart without hindrance. Remember, when you have a
problem, you need to speak to someone to find a solution. I love you."
This morning Jesus was very practical. He knows that many people have
problems with believing and praying these days. We should not just
complain but we should do something about it. Jesus shows us the way. If
we have doubts, He wants us to go and talk to a person who has great
faith and find out why that person believes as he or she does. Bring
your doubts to him or her with an open heart and listen to what that
person teaches you. Jesus will definitely teach us through a person of
faith. He also deals with those who have difficulty in prayer. Prayer is
a heart to heart talk with God, and if we cannot pray then there is a
problem in us. We have to examine our conscience and seek out the
problem.
Is there resentment, fear, anger or some part of our life which is in
opposition to the teachings of Jesus and the Church? Do we need
forgiveness for what we have done? Let us look in those areas to find
out where the problem lies. Once we have repented from the heart, Jesus
will come to live in our heart and prayer will be possible again.
Let us thank the Lord for all He does for us.
