LOVE MY MOTHER AS I LOVE HER
Dear Paul, Rita and Friends,
Good morning on this great feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. It is calm
but overcast and we will have plenty of rain this afternoon and evening.
I was with Jesus this morning in prayer and He spoke about His Mother.
He began by saying, "Melvin, my brother, I love you. It is Our Mother's
Feastday today entitled 'Our Lady of the Rosary.' The rosary is a prayer
that is very scriptural. It helps you to meditate on the various
mysteries of my life from the Annunciation to my Ascension into heaven
and the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. Those who pray the
rosary regularly come to know me and my mother well. I call you all to
pray the rosary every day. In this prayer you ask her to intercede for
you, her son or daughter. If you love your heavenly mother, you will
love to pray the rosary. She appeared many times on earth to urge all to
pray this favourite prayer of hers. Melvin, she visited you too and
asked for a shrine in her honour. Pray that her home among you will soon
be a reality. I love my mother and I was the first to honour her. Before
I died, I gave her to you all to be your mother too. Her suffering at
the foot of my cross means that she will always be associated with me in
your salvation. Love her as I love her. She gave me birth, nursed me and
nurtured me when I was young. She is the most wonderful mother in all
the world. If you love me, then you have to love my mother and your
mother too. I bless you."
Jesus expressed this morning His great love for His Mother. In simple
terms, He shows us His tender heart as He honours His Mother. He wants
us to pray the rosary every day, a prayer that is biblical and makes us
contemplate the great events of Jesus' life and also those of Our Lady.
Because Our Mother stood in great suffering at the foot of the cross,
Jesus associates her with Him in our salvation. We should never see
Jesus dying on the cross without His Mother standing there. He has these
gentle words for us this morning, "Love her as I love her." Again at the
end He urges us, "If you love me, then you have to love my mother and
your mother too."
Let us honour her today and let us pray that her shrine will soon be
built here on the Island. Jesus asks us to pray for this favour.
I will celebrate the Holy Eucharist at the manor today. I am sure my
mother will attend as well as many of the residents there. Please
continue to pray for the sick that the Lord will heal them all.
Let us remain close to Jesus and Our Mother Mary today.
