JESUS LOVES THE YOUTH
Dear Paul, Rita and Friends, Good afternoon!
We have another sunny day with the temperature climbing up again. I had a wonderful few days in Charlottetown and I attended the mission at St. Dunstan's Basilica given by Deacon Dr. Bob McDonald. He is a powerful speaker with a strong message for married couples. Many people came for the three days, and he will return again next year for another mission. I drove home this morning in the beautiful sunshine to find that I had exactly 40 e-mail letters. It will take me a while to read them all. I spent 30 minutes in prayer with Jesus this morning.
He spoke to me saying, "Melvin, my brother, I love you. I love all my brothers and sisters and be assured that my love will never diminish. All of you, come to me, for there is place for you all in my heart. I have a special place in my heart for youth. Their heart is open to the future, to adventure and to experience, whatever is new without thinking much about the dangers. They want to reach out in different directions according to their desires. It is easy today to make the wrong choices and to be led astray. How important it is for them to be nourished in their growing years with a good knowledge of the faith, to form good habits and to remain close to me through prayer. Some youth in their search for meaning, turn to alcohol and drugs and become enslaved by these powerful stimulants. Others give vent to their instincts especially their sexual instincts and this could destroy their future. The evil one will lead them that way if they allow him to do so. How important it is, therefore, that they be led by me, that they go to church regularly and receive the Eucharist and repent of their sins. I call all the youth to accept me as their friend. I love all the youth and I want to be close to them. May they talk over their problems and plans with me. I bless you all."
I am always amazed at the great attraction the Pope is to the youth. He is the one who started the World Youth Days. A very large number of youth come to these gatherings. The gathering in Rome in the year 2000 attracted two million of them. This year in July, the World Youth Day will take place in Toronto, Canada, and many youth are planning to attend. The parishes and dioceses need to tap into this enthusiasm of youth, and find the way to get them on fire for Jesus. The Lord tells us that it is very important that they remain closely link to Him. Otherwise they could be carried away in the wrong direction. It is especially the youth between the ages of 16 and 21, that are the most vulnerable. May the Holy Spirit inspire many to find a way to nourish their faith and be guides for them. May the Lord bless us all especially the youth of today.
