YOU CANNOT ADVANCE WITHOUT MY HELP
Dear Paul, Rita and Friends,
Good morning on this calm and partly cloudy 8th day of December. We are
celebrating the 2nd Sunday of Advent and tomorrow we will celebrate the
Feast of the Immaculate Conception. I had the celebration of the Holy
Eucharist at Palmer Road Church last evening and this evening the
priests of the area will gather at the same church for the sacrament of
confession. In the next two weeks we will make the rounds of all the
churches in the area for private confession. I am so happy that the Holy
Father has put an end to general absolution because there were abuses in
connection with it.
I spent a half hour with Jesus this morning in contemplative prayer. He
spoke to me saying, "Melvin, my soul friend, I love you. Sunday is the
day to remember my resurrection from the dead. I am risen as your
Saviour, Melvin, and the Saviour of all my brothers and sisters who
accept me. I am patient as I await you all to turn your lives over to
me, that you repent of all your sins and live according to my will. You
can understand that I am the ruler of the world for all power has been
given to me. However, I do not impose myself on you but I invite you to
accept me and follow me out of love. I came into the world on that first
Christmas night. Although I am divine, I agreed to become a human being
in order to teach you all the truth and to die for you to wipe away your
sins. Now I call you to form a partnership with me through a deep
spiritual friendship. I will live in you and transform you if you
cooperate with me. It is by a heart to heart prayer that your love will
grow and our union will take place. Imitate me for I am the model for
your life. You cannot advance without my help. Come, then, to me every
day and ask for the graces you need. I bless you all."
At the end of Matthew's Gospel Jesus tells His Apostles, "All power in
heaven and earth has been given to me." This power was given to Jesus by
the Father and He will exercise it here in this world till the end of
time. However, He does not force us to do anything against our will but
He invites us. His saving sacrifice on the cross cannot be applied to us
unless we believe and accept Him as the Lord and Saviour.
With His help we have to change our lives around by being truly His
followers. We are not to be Christians in name only. He wants our
cooperation so that we may receive the help we need to advance towards
Him. If we invite Him into our lives, He will transform us and make us
His intimate friends. Again today He calls us to prayer, especially
contemplative prayer which He calls a heart to heart prayer. We are not
to be social workers but we help the poor and needy out of love for the
Lord. It is the Lord who urges us on to work for Him.
May each one of us come closer to the Lord daily through love and
service.
