IT IS THROUGH SUFFERING THAT THE WORLD WILL BE RENEWED
Dear Paul, Rita and Friends, Greetings and best wishes to you all! I
arrived
home in Palmer Road at 12:45 pm today after a superb pilgrimage to
Italy. We
began at Venice which is a very special city. I was able to celebrate
the
Holy Eucha- rist at the Duomo, the beautiful Cathedral of St. Mark in
that
city. We visited the historical part of the city and to get there we
had to
take a boat ride. Old Venice does not have streets but canals and one
takes
a gondola to reach the place one wants to go. On the second day we
celebrated Mass at the Basilica of St. Anthony in Padua, another
wonderful
place to visit. On Friday I celebrated the Holy Eucharist with the
whole
group in St. Ambrose Church in Florence where an Eu- charistic miracle
took
place. On Saturday the celebration was at St. Dominic's Church in
Siena, the
town made famous by St. Catherine of Siena. On Sunday we celebration
the
Holy Eucharist at the Basilica of St. Francis in Assisi. This place is
very
beautiful and all pilgrims should visit it. On Monday Holy Mass was
celebrated at San Giovanni Rotundo, the town where Blessed Padre Pio
lived
and died. The whole group visited his tomb in the main church. On
Tuesday
the celebration of the Holy Eucharist was at the Patriarchal Basilica
of St.
Mary Major in Rome, the first church dedicated to the Mother of God
built in
the 5th century. On Wednesday we attended the Papal audience in St.
Peter's
Square and two of the group were able to kiss the Pope's ring. In the
evening the celebration of the Holy Eucharist was in a special room at
the
hotel in Rome. On Thursday morning before going to the airport, we all
walked to St. Mary Major again, and I celebrated the Holy Eucharist
with the
whole group and we prayed for peace. This gives you an idea of some of
the
places we visited and had the privilege to celebrate Mass. I also thank
the
Lord for giving us 10 sunny days. It rained at times while we were in
the
bus going to a city but as we got there the sun would come out and we
could
visit the place without getting wet. We attended the papal audience
outside
in the square although it was cloudy and rain seemed to be ready to
fall at
any time. However, no rain fell during the whole of the audience only
afterwards. I thank Our Lord and Our Blessed Mother for being with us
during
these days.
In my time of contemplative prayer this morning in Dieppe, New Bruns-
wick,
Jesus spoke to me these words,
"Melvin, my brother and friend, I love you, I care for you. You are
back in
Canada after a holy and blessed pilgrimage to the many holy places in
Italy.
I accompanied you every day and Our Blessed Mother was with us too.
Melvin,
there will be much suffering in the world in the near future. You will
suffer together with many people. The moment has now arrived. It is the
sin
of so many people that has brought this about. Now is the time for all
my
friends to come near to me, to pray fervently every day, and to go to
church
regularly. You, who contemplate daily, I will give you peace of mind
and
heart. I will live in your hearts and I will bless you every day. Do
not be
afraid but be prepared to suffer. It is through this suffering that the
world will be renewed. May all repent of their sins as soon as possible
and
amend their lives, so that the sufferings may be lessened. I love you."
Jesus gives us a message today which we naturally don't like to hear.
It has
to do with suffering. I do not know what kind of suffering this will
be. But
whatever it is let us remain focused on Jesus, and increa- se our
prayer and
devotion to Him. Jesus loves us and He calls us close to Him and He
will
give us His peace and take away our fear. May the Lord bless you and
may Our
Lady enfold you in her mantle.
