I WILL STRENGTHEN YOU
Dear Paul, Rita and Friends,
Greetings on this warm and sunny day. We had a very warm day yesterday
and the heat wave continues. However, it gets cool at night for a good
sleep.
I was with Jesus this morning in prayer. He spoke to me saying, "Melvin,
I live in your heart, I love you. On the feast of the great martyr of
the Second World War in Poland, St. Maximilian Kolbe, I want to speak
this morning about martyrdom. There is no greater love than to give up
one's life for one's friends. As you know, I gave up my life for each
one of you. I accepted to be killed so that you could be saved. It was
in terrible suffering that I redeemed you. St. Maximilian Kolbe imitated
me to the very end. He gave his life for a fellow prisoner who was
chosen at random to be starved to death as a warning to the others that
the same punishment would happen to them if they tried to escape.
Maximilian stepped forward and asked the officer that he be chosen
instead of his fellow prisoner who had a wife and family. He was
accepted and with others he was locked in a room to remain there till
death without any food. When the door was opened after many days, all
the prisoners were dead except Maximilian. The prison officers did not
want to wait any longer, so they decided to kill with a poisonous
injection. He is a great saint of the church and there is a big feast in
Heaven today in his honour. Christians have many enemies in the world
because as they hated me, they will also hate those who follow me. Do
not be afraid of those who can kill the body but cannot kill the soul.
Put your trust in me and I will strengthen you. I bless you all."
What great love Jesus has for St. Maximilian Kolbe, whose feast is
today, the eve of the Assumption of Our Lady. St. Maximilian had a great
love for Our Lady and he inspired many to have a great devotion to her.
He also resembles Jesus in His suffering and death. He is a great saint
for our time and his life brings out the horror of war. He gave his life
for a fellow prisoner as Jesus gave His life for us.
May the example of St. Maximilian Kolbe inspire us to love every person
even those who persecute us and hate us.
