LET
OUR RELATIONSHIP GROW
Dear Paul, Rita and Friends,
Good morning! It is cloudy again today and we should have some more
snow. There is a little on the ground now just enough for Christmas. I
was in Alberton Parish last evening for confessions and I will be at
Tignish Parish this evening for the children's confessions. My mother
was in good form yesterday. She came to the chapel for the celebration
of the Holy Eucharist. She is still not walking but she pushes herself
around in her wheelchair.
I was with Jesus during my half hour of prayer this morning. He spoke
saying, "Melvin, my brother, I love you. My coming into the world
brought life to you. This life is a sharing in my own divine life
because I live in you. The greatest gift I can give my friends is the
gift of myself. Realize the awesome reality that the Son of God lives in
you. You are like a tabernacle in the Church where I make my home. My
presence in you makes you a renewed person and the beloved of my Father.
You are precious in His eyes because of my indwelling. My brothers and
sisters, live this reality every day. Respect yourselves by respecting
me who lives in your heart. Come often to me in prayer for I desire a
strong and loving relationship with you. Find a time and place every day
when you can be alone with me in a deep heart to heart talk. I have much
to talk to you about and to teach you. I want you to come to know me
intimately as your greatest friend. Avoid sin for it destroys our
relationship or at the least weakens it. Now is the time to begin
contemplative prayer, the prayer that fosters friendship with me. I will
pour my love in your heart if you turn to me. This is true life: to know
me, your Saviour, and to love me with all your heart. Let our
relationship grow every day through prayer and service. I bless you."
Jesus spoke about the indwelling today. We know that Jesus together with
the Father and the Holy Spirit dwells in the hearts of Christians who
have repented of their sins. The indwelling begins at Baptism and only
sin can force God from our hearts. He returns when we repent and receive
the sacrament of confession. Jesus wants us to be aware today of the
great reality that He lives in us as in a tabernacle. In fact our heart
is the human tabernacle where He makes His home. Wherever we go and
whatever we do, we have Jesus with us. If we love Him we will avoid to
take Him to orgies, drunken parties or places of ill repute. We will
respect Him by watching our speech and not indulging in thoughts of
anger or revenge. We will imitate Him by forgiving those who sin against
us as He forgives us. Jesus tells us that because of His presence we are
renewed. He wants a deep and loving relationship with each one of us and
His preferred prayer is contemplative prayer. This relationship will
grow if we pray daily and serve Him in others.
Let us thank Jesus for coming to live in our heart and let us foster a
warm relationship with Him.
