I  AM  YOUR  HIGH  PRIEST

Dear Paul, Rita and Friends,
Good morning on this beautiful sunny Wednesday. The sun came up so
bright this morning without a cloud in the sky. There is just a little
wind. I have visitors from New Brunswick who came yesterday with their
camper and stayed in my yard overnight. I hope they slept well as it was
very quiet. They will visit around the area today. I expect they will go
to North Cape about 15 km. away to see the many huge windmills producing
energy. It is a great wonder to see.

I thank all those who wrote to me letting me know that they are praying
for my mother. Your prayers are highly appreciated. With so many people
praying for her no wonder she feels so well these days. Thank you very
much.

This morning in prayer, Jesus spoke to me about the priesthood. He began
by saying, "Melvin, I love you. I gave you a share in my priesthood so
that you can minister to all those who come to you. I chose and called
you to the priesthood to work closely with me. The people purchased by
my blood on the cross have need of dedicated and holy priests who can
feed them with the truth and direct them towards me. My dear brothers
and sisters, how important it is that you have priests to celebrate the
Eucharist and to absolve you of your sins. Without priests there would
be no Church as I established it. Pray, then, that many young men will
answer the call to be priests. I call a sufficient number but some
refuse to answer the call. Priests are to be men of prayer and closely
united to me. They are to bring me to others. Those who are bound to
celibacy are to imitate me for I was a celibate all my life. I give them
the grace of celibacy and may they cooperate with that grace. May they
teach my doctrine and not their own ideas. They are to read and study
the Bible together with the interpretation and teachings of the Church,
my Church, continuously. Let there be unity among them animated with
love for me and one another. I am your High Priest. I bless you all and
consecrate all priests to my service."

Jesus is the High Priest of Christianity and this is shown especially in
the letter to the Hebrews in the New Testament. There is in fact only
one priesthood, that of Our Lord. All priests participate in this one
priesthood. Jesus made His Apostles priests at the Last Supper on the
first Holy Thursday when after changing the bread and wine into His own
body and blood told the Apostles these words, "Do this in memory of me".
The Apostles and their successors laid their hands on those chosen and
gave them the sacrament of Orders by which those called become priests.
Priests have to be ordained by the successors of the Apostles who are
called bishops. No person is worthy to become a priest of Jesus Christ
for we are all sinners. One chosen by the Lord should only accept in
humility and trembling knowing that, without God's grace and His
calling, he could not presume to take upon himself such a
responsibility. A priest is called to mirror Christ to the people.
He has to be loyal to Jesus at all times and be obedient to the
authority of the Church. Jesus says that he must be a man of prayer. He
is to celebrate the Holy Eucharist devoutly in union with the Lord. His
preaching is to be in conformity with the teachings of Jesus as it is
written in the Bible and taught by the Church.

Priests are necessary for the Church. Let us pray every day for many
holy and devoted priests who will minister to the people without
counting the cost. Jesus stresses celibacy by which a priest remains
single in imitation of the Lord. It is a prophetic way of life which
points to another life beyond this one. It points to the full blossoming
of life in the Kingdom of God in heaven. Priests who remain close to
Jesus through prayer, contemplation and the practice of prudence, will
be happy in their celibate life. I believe that priests who practice
contemplative prayer every day will be able to live a moral life and
find their joy in their close relationship with Jesus. They will also
have a great devotion to Our Blessed Mother who will win for them many
graces. Let us pray for all priests that they may be faithful to all
aspects of their priesthood.

May the Lord call many to be priests and let us thank Him for our
priests.

Father Melvin
