CHOOSE  WISELY

Dear Paul, Rita and Friends,
Greetings on this clear summer day! The sun is shining but there is a
wind to keep the heat away. I helped out at the healing Mass last
evening at Palmer Road Church. I will have another one in Tignish on
Thursday evening. Many people in these parishes are doing the St. Anne's
novena. Many in this area have a great devotion to her.

My thirty-minute contemplative prayer was spent with Jesus this morning.
He spoke to me saying, "Melvin, my brother, I love you. Turn your heart
to me to find peace all you, my brothers and sisters. So many people
only think about themselves and indulge in food, drink or drugs. They
believe they will find in these things, the joy and happiness they crave
for. Others become preoccupied with material things such as cars,
clothes, money and vacation. These cannot give happiness for they are
empty and do not fulfill the desires of the heart. I am the only one who
can give you peace and joy, my gifts to all who come to me. Your heart
was made for me and you will not find rest until you rest in me. There
is much sadness and unhappiness in the world today because many have
rejected me. They live in darkness and their hearts are empty. They are
under the influence of the evil one who is leading them along the way of
death. It is not too late, my brothers and sisters, to say no to the
devil and come into the light. Turn around now and come to me. Do not
let the spirit of the world capture you. You were made for something
greater: to live with me in love. Give me your heart and you will
receive more than the world can give. I give you life but the world can
only give you death. Choose wisely, my people. I love you."

Jesus calls us this morning to choose wisely. If something looks nice,
it is not necessarily good for us. What appeals to our appetites does
not mean by that fact that it is good for us. Because of original sin,
we know that we lean towards evil. The greatest good that we can choose
is the Lord Himself. Let us choose Him and live according to His
standards. When we have to choose something in life let us bring it to
Him first. What would Jesus do in our situation? Every day we have to
make choices that will affect our life, let us make them wisely.

May the Lord enlighten us to choose according to His will.
