YOU  ARE  DEAR  TO  ME

Dear Paul, Rita and Friends,
Good morning! It is cool but sunny today. It feels as if we are already
in September. I was at the prayer meeting last evening and about 50
people attended. Last week, we had prayed with a man who had a very sore
back and he was there again last night. He shared that he sang all the
way home last Wednesday and he did not have any pain in his back all
week. He came to thank the Lord for curing him and to share the good
news with us.

I spent my thirty minutes with Jesus this morning. He began by saying,
"Melvin, my friend, I love you. Today is the feast of St. James, the son
of Zebedee, and my Apostle. He imitated me by dying a martyr. The twelve
Apostles are the foundation stones of the Church which is my body. They
are distinguished by their great love of me and they showed their love
by their martyrdom. They worked very hard to establish the Church in the
world. They were all united around Peter, their head. My friends, the
Apostles gave you a great example of love and service. They lived their
lives based completely on me and they went throughout the world to
spread the Good News I had brought them. They were not afraid to suffer
and to die for me. The Church built on the Apostles is strong and cannot
fail for you have my word that she will exist till the end of the world.
I strengthen you as I strengthened the Apostles to face the future
without fear. I am with you all days until the end of the age. Remain in
my love as I remain with you. Pray for the successors of the Apostles
that they may follow in their footsteps. Pray also for the unity of all
the Christians as I prayed the night before I died. You are dear to me
as the Apostles were and as they are today in heaven. I bless you all."

We are celebrating today the feast of Saint James, one of the great
Apostles of the Lord. He gave his life for Jesus till the shedding of
his blood. He is known as James the Greater to distinguish him from the
other Apostle of the same name. Jesus calls us to pray for the Church
and for the successors of the Apostles who are the Bishops. Let us pray
that they be united with the Pope as the Apostles were united with St.
Peter, the first head of the Church appointed by Jesus Himself. We pray,
too, that all Christians will be one as Jesus prayed the night before He
died. What a great example for the world it would be if all Protestants,
Orthodox and Catholics were united in one great Church. I am sure it
will come about one day.

May the grace of God make us all strong in faith and love as the
Apostles were.

Father Melvin
