THE  FEAST  OF  THE  VISITATION

Dear Paul, Rita and Friends,
Good morning on the Feast of the Visitation! We had rain overnight but
the roads are already dry. The sky is still covered so we might get some
more today. The farmers will surely be happy with this rain for it was
very dry with plenty of dust flying in the fields.

During my prayer this morning, Jesus spoke to me saying, "Melvin, I
love you. As today is the Feast of the Visitation let us go and visit
Our Mother." I was filled with joy to visit Our Lady and Jesus took
me to her home. She greeted us saying, "Welcome Jesus and Melvin.
My cousin Elizabeth is here with us today to celebrate my visit to
her home." Jesus and I greeted her. Our Lady continued, "You will
remember that at the time of the Visitation we were both with child.
Our unborn children played an important role during this visit. John
whom Elizabeth was carrying leaped with joy at the arrival of Jesus
who had been conceived only a few days previously. What did you feel
Elizabeth at my greeting?" Elizabeth answered, "I felt my child leap
in my womb and I was filled with the Holy Spirit and I began to speak.
I called my cousin Mary, blessed among women and blessed is the fruit
of your womb." Our Blessed Mother then said, "I was filled too with the
Holy Spirit and spoke my praises to God in the words of this canticle,
'My soul glorifies the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God, my Saviour.' I
wish to stress that our unborn children were fully human persons and
they influenced what took place on that day. All unborn children are
to be protected from the moment of conception. The crime of abortion,
the killing of the unborn, is abhorrent to me. On this feast of mine,
I call on all my children to stop abortion. May these horrible acts
stop now. I bless all those who abhor abortions and I express my joy
again that there are no abortions on the Island. Keep my Island
unstained by the blood of the innocents. I love you all."

In 1990, I went to Ain Karem in Israel, the village where Joachim and
Elizabeth lived. I  prayed in the church dedicated to Our Blessed
Mother's visit of her cousin. There is also a Church dedicated to St.
John the Baptist, the precursor of the Lord. This beautiful event shows
our Heavenly Mother's concern for her cousin and her desire to help her
during her pregnancy. This visit also teaches us to consider the unborn
as children of God who have to be loved and protected from the moment of
conception. We are to respect all human beings especially the unborn who
are the most vulnerable today. Let us pray today on the Feast of the
Visitation that abortion ends everywhere in the world and the unborn
be considered as gifts from God.

I will have visitors today from New Brunswick and Manitoba. And this
evening I will be at the wake of Claude Harper of Tignish who passed
away yesterday. I will celebrate the Funeral Mass tomorrow.

May the Lord bless you on the Feast of the Visitation. Let us thank Our
Blessed Mother for giving us the precious gift of Jesus, the Son of God.
