RUMORS, LIKELY AND UNLIKELY, CIRCULATING

ROME, (CWNews.com) - Of two rumors concerning a canonization and a
prayer
request from a Marian visionary currently enjoying wide circulation
throughout Rome and on the Internet, CWN has determined that only one
might
be true.

Several news outlets last week reported that a new miracle has been
approved
for Blessed Josemaria Escriva, the founder of Opus Dei, and that he
will be
canonized next year. According to CWN sources in Rome nothing official
has
been announced. However, those same sources also said a second miracle
was
approved for Bl. Josemaria in late September, clearing the way for
canonization, and an official announcement would be made just before
Christmas, the traditional time for such proclamations from the
Congregation
for the Cause of Saints.

A second rumor states that Sr. Lucia, the lone surviving seer of the
Fatima
apparitions in 1917, had asked all Catholics to pray the whole Rosary--
all
15 decades-- Sunday on the Feast of the Rosary, to prevent a further
spread
of warfare. However there has been no confirmation of this rumor,
despite
its wide distribution. There are also variations on the rumor-- such as
that
the Pope made the same request, which the Vatican has confirmed as not
true,
and that Sr. Lucia was responding to the US air strikes against the
Taliban
and Osama bin Laden on Sunday, which is also not true since the rumor
began
circulating a few days earlier.
