What is your real name?
어디서, 언제 태어 났으며 진짜 이름은무엇입니까?

Enya : Eithne Ni Braonain.
I was born in Ireland on 17th May 1961: exactly in Gweedore,
in the county of Donegal.
The name Enya derives from a Nordic legend.
Enya was a goddess condemned to live in a island to not marry.
In case of marriage it was destiny that her husband killed her father.

Ireland에서(더 정확히 말하면, Donegal주 Gweedore이다)
1961년 5월 17일 출생했으며, 본명은 Eithne N Braon n입니다.

What else have you done for living?
음악이외에 다른 일 하시는 것이 있습니까?

Enya : Nothing but the singing. I come from a family of musicians...
Music has been following me ever since my childhood.

음악밖에 모릅니다. 가족이 모두 음악을 하시는 분들이며,
어린 시절부터 음악과 더불어 살아왔습니다.

Besides the music, what is your favourite occupation?
음악이외에 다른 취미라도 있으신지요?

Enya : I like travelling. Every time I get on a plane I begin feeling better.
Promoting all around the world makes me excited.

여행을 좋아합니다.
비행기에 오르기만하면 기분이 상쾌해지지요.
전세계를 여행할 수 있다는 생각에 가슴이 두근 거리지요.

Which destination haven't you yet been able to reach?
(가보고 싶은 곳 중에서) 아직 가 보시지 못한 곳은 어디인지요?

Enya : I haven't been to Sicily yet. I look forward to going there,
it must be a wonderful place.

시칠리 섬입니다. 그곳에 무척 가보고 싶습니다.
그곳은 너무나 아름다운 곳이지요.

Why don't you want to be defined "New Age"?
자신의 음악이 "New Age"라 불리워 지는 것을 왜 싫어하시는 지요?

Enya : It's a term that I can't stand.
I don't like labelling music with rigid categories.
This is an operation that I leave with pleasure to the record sellers...

그런 용어는 정말 질색입니다.
음악을 어떤 고정된 범주에 넣는 것은 혐오스런 일이지요.
이런 것은 음악을 듣는 분들이 생각하시도록
기꺼이 내 버려 두어야 할 과정이라 생각합니다.

Which is the last film that moved you?
가장 최근에 보셨던 감동적인 영화는?

Enya : Without a doubt, "Shine".
Also because it is based on Rachmaninov's music,
my favourite classical author.
I was moved as it hasn't happened to me for long.

말할 것도 없이 "Shine"입니다.
내가 가장 좋아하는 Rachmaninov의 음악이 깔려 있기 때문이지요.
오랜 동안 그런 감정을 느껴보지 못했기 때문에 전 감동을 받았지요.

Have you ever thought about acting?
연기해보는 것에 대해 생각해 보신 적이 있으신지요?

Enya : I can't say I have never thought about it...
But I think this isn't for me.
To be an actress is something that require a kind of vocation.
In my case, at most, you can call it curiosity.

한번도 생각해 보지 않았다는 것은 아니지만,
내게는 어울리지 않는다고 생각합니다.
배우가 된다는 것은 직업적인 의식이 필요한 것이라 생각합니다.
내가 혹시 한다면 기껏해봐야 호기심으로 하는 정도겠지요.

Do you like watching TV?
TV는 잘 보시는 지요?

Enya : For me TV exists only when those
wonderful movies in black and white,
based on ardent love stories, go on the air.
I am an incurable romantic.

제 경우에 있어서
TV는 열정적인 러브스토리 흑백영화가 방영될 때만 필요한 존재이지요.
전, 타고난 로맨티스트인가 봐요.

You have often declared you have no time for sentiments...
감성적인 것에 빠질 시간적 여유가없다고 말씀하시곤 했는데....

Enya : Luckily things have changed.
At the beginning of my career
I was convinced that there would have been no time for something else.
Nowadays I have a private life that I defend jealously.

다행히도 주변의 일들이 변하더군요.
처음 노래를 시작했을 때는
다른 일에는 눈돌릴 틈이 없을 것이라고 확신했었죠.
하지만, 요즘은 편안한 사생활을 옹호하는 쪽이 되었지요.

What can't you stand about the music industry?
음악산업에 관하여 참을 수 없을 만큼 불쾌한 일은 무엇인지요?

Enya : The idea you have to attend some fashionable clubs
or to take part in some parties.
I hate obligatory society life. I like going to clubs or parties,
but only when I decide it, freely.

어떤 화려한 클럽모임이나
파티에 꼭 참석해야한다는 생각은 너무나 싫어요.
전 의무적인 사교활동은 질색입니다.
클럽이나 파티에 가는 것 저도 좋아하지요,
하지만, 내가 가고 싶을 때만 가지요.

Do you like navigating on Internet?
인터넷 서핑을 좋아하시는지요?

Enya : My only relationship with Internet are the "Enya pages",
owing to necessity of information.
I like very much reading the messages my fans send to my E-mail address.

저는 "Enya pages"만 찾아 보지요.
정보를 얻기 위해서요.
팬들이 제게 보낸 글들을 보는 것은 너무나 좋아요.

With the exception of Ireland, in which country would you like to live?
(고국인 ) Ireland는 빼고, 가서 살고 싶은 나라 있습니까?

Enya : There are many places where I'd like to live...
Even if at the end I think I couldn't leave Ireland.
I am too much bound up with my family.

살고 싶은 곳이 많지요....
그러다가 결국에는 Ireland를 떠나지 못한 다는 것을 알지요.
전 제 가족들이 가족들이 너무 좋아 떨어지기가 힘들지요.

Enya and fashion...
Enya와 패션이라....

Enya : I like spending hours in the best dress-shops,
but I never buy a dress only because
in that moment is considered to be trendy.

멎진 옷가게에서 시간보내는 것을 좋아하지만,
결코 옷을 사는 법은 없어요. 너무 유행을 쫓는 것같기 때문이지요.

The "Verve" sing "Drugs Don't Work"... Verve가
"마약은 아무 쓸모도 없다.."라고 노래하는데...

Enya : All right! I think it's too easy to search for a refuge in drugs.
It's a flight that doesn't serve for resolving problems,
indeed it creates new and bigger ones.

물론이지요.
어려울 때 탈출구로 마약을 가까이 하는 것이 가장 쉬운 방법이지요.
하지만 문제 해결에는 아무런 도움이 되지 않지요.
오히려 새롭고 더 큰 문제를 야기 할 뿐이지요.

Does the idea of getting old scare you?
나이 드는 것이 두렵지 않으신지요?

Enya : Unlike a lot of my colleagues I am not scared by old age.
At least until I will be able to look at myself in the mirror without being horrified.

제 동료들과는 달리,
전 나이드는 것에 두려움을 느끼지는 않습니다.
적어도 (거울 속 모습에)질겁하지 않고
거울을 들여다 볼 수 있을 때 까진, 두려움을 느끼지 않지요.

What relation do you have with religion?
귀하에게 있어서 종교는 어떤 의미인지요?

Enya : I am deeply Catholic.
During my teens I kept religion far away from my life.
For some years I have felt the need of a spiritual dimension.

전 독실한 카톨릭입니다.
십대땐 종교와 거리를 두었지요.
몇 년 동안 영적인 영역이 필요하다고 느꼈지요.

Why don't you perform live?
live무대에서 공연하시는 것은 어떠신지요?

Enya : I have requests for concerts all over the world.
Unfortunately my music would be very hard to perform on stage.
I should take with me a real army of musicians.

세계 각국으로부터 그런 요청을 받지요.
하지만, 불행하게도 제 음악은 무대공연에 어울리지 않습니다.
그렇게 하려면 너무나 많은 동료들을 데리고 가야하니까요.

Is there a colour that inspires you more than the others?
영감을 주는 특별한 색깔은 요?

Enya :Blue, especially inside natural phenomena.
It's an extraordinary colour that can take on one thousand different tonalities.
I like dwelling in contemplating the sky.

푸른 색입니다. 특히 변화하는 자연속에서 보는 그런 푸른색 말입니다.
이 때는 푸른색이 수천가지의 색조로 나타나게 되지요.
푸르른 하늘을 보며 명상에 잠겨 지내는 것을 좋아하지요.
