LET'S GO TO THE CHE JU ISLAND!!!

Cheju island (Chejudo) known as a place of fantasy or mystery is the largest island in Korea and is located in the southwest sea of the Korean peninsula and is highlighted for its uniqueness. The size of Cheju is 73km from east to west, 41Km from north to south in the shape of an oval. The island has an area of 1,845km2 with a circuit road of 182km along the seashores. It has a convenient traffic situation thanks to the several transversal roads and many other small and large roads and its population is about 530,000.
In the center of this island, there is Halla mountain which was a volcano once rising 1,950m above the sea level. About 360 smaller cones named "Orum" around the island show a peculiar topographical view in combination with Halla mountain. It has strong influence from oceanic climate in summer and continental climate in winter and it's very mild with the annular mean temperature of about 16'C.
Various kinds of plants from polar plants to subtropical plants are distributed making a treasure house of about 1,800 kinds of plants. It holds rich underground resources, and every kind of fish and corals in the clean blue sea area. Cheju is a tourist resort (with no other industry) with all conditions for a resort area. The many guests visiting this blessed island from many states have helped to make it an international tourist resort.



Sungsan`s Sunrise Peak

Many tourists regard Sungsan`s Sunrise Peak as the most impressive tourist site in Cheju Island. It should be, however, noted that people who haven`t seen the sun rise still choose the site as the best place. In order to watch the sunrise successfully from sungsan which is located at the east most of Cheju Island, the accommodations should be arranged to nearby private residences or lodging facilities. To get up early in the morning and climb up to the summit is to feel the ecstasy of the sunrise. The real value of Sungsan Sunrise Peak, unable to be described in words, can be actually felt. Located at Sungsan-ri, Sungsan-up, Namcheju-kun, it takes about 1 hour 20 min. by local bus departing Cheju Bus Terminal.



Mt. Sanbang

Mt. Halla is often said to be the only a mountain in Cheju Island and others are merely parasitic volcanos. But there quite a number of mountains boasting their beauty although they may not be high or majestic as that of Mt. Halla. Among many mountains, the most famous for picturesque scenery with mystic atmosphere and not to be missed is Mt. Sanbang. The legend has it that Mt. Sanbang was taken away from the tip of Mt. Halla ( the place became now Paeknokdam ). The breathtaking beauty of the mountain attracts the visitors at first sight. Located at Sakye-ri, Andok-myon, Namcheju-kun. It takes 55 min. by bus going to Sakye and 40 min. by local bus from Seogwipo City Bus Terminal. Nearby places of interest are Yongmori Coast, Hwasun Beach and Cheju Sculpture Park.



Chunjeyun Waterfall

The legend has it that the waterfall was named after seven nymphs who assisted the heaven`s emperor descended at night to bath and play in the water. Flanked with dense trees are the three waterfalls providing magnificent sight to enjoy. The first waterfall cascading from 22m high cliff into its pond is 21m deep, and then the second waterfall continues until the water from the third waterfall flows into the ocean. It is the best tourist site in Chungmun Tourist Resort Complex and the subtropical plants grow on the walls of the gorge. 40 minutes by bus from the Cheju City bus terminal.






Chungbang Waterfall

Looking at the waterfall that dashes into the sea with thunderous sounds gives a great impression to the viewers. It attracts the people for having a force to refresh their minds. 10 minutes walk from downtown Seogwipo City. Other tourist sites to enjoy around the Chungbang Waterfall are Sochongbang and Chungbang Cave. Lodging facilities are available such as Paradise Hotel.





Halla mountain

Halla mountain changes its appearance according to the seasons, royal azalea and azalea make a spectacle in Spring and climbing the Halla mountain covered with snow in Winter is very impressive. You must prepare for the sudden changes of high mountain of 1950m height before climbing and be accompanied by veterans against the danger of being lost especially in Winter. Now it's prohibited entering Bakrokdam and several climbing courses for the protection of nature.
