Overview:

Any group fronted by a twenty-year-old and who is daring enough to start its debut album with Handel's 'Feuerwerkmusik' creatively arranged into a 3-minute Krautrock song is going to be a winner in my book! Stephan Kaske (flute, keyboard, vocals, and guitar) was only 18 when he formed Mythos in 1969. Following the aforementioned track is 'Oriental Journey'. This track leads the listener through a world of Eastern-styled psychedelic folk weirdness that comes close to topping Kalacakra! Next is the hard rocking space trip 'Hero's Death' which sounds like a disturbing mix of Guru Guru, Hendrix, and original weirdness. Finally the album closes with the two-part 'Encyclopedia Terra' suite. The track is the musical story of the birth, aging and eventual death of our Earth, an incredible piece of musical concept and not to be missed. 'Mythos' is a truly inspired piece of musical genius and one of my personal favorite albums from the genre. [4/5 Doug]
