Overview:

'Rhapsody' is a progressive/symphonic rock album sure to appeal to fans of Emerson, Lake & Palmer styled 'classical rock'. Pompous in nature, the album contains themes borrowed from the famous composers Liszt and Rachmaninoff. 'Rhapsody' opens with the title track which is split into three sections: 'Frost Of An Alien Darkness', 'Wanderer', and 'Can Can'. Showcasing ample amounts of swirling organ, classical guitar, violin, flute, and synthesizer, 'Rhapsody' offers up quirky adaptations of classical themes. The second track, 'Prelude', is a piano driven instrumental featuring themes borrowed from Rachmaninoff. Devoid of overt classical themes, 'Desert In Your Mind' stands out as a solid progressive rock track. It features a dramatic verse dominated by hammond organ as well as strong synthesizer and guitar solos. 'The Riot' blends together the groups progressive and symphonic elements into a well-rounded sound. The album closes with 'Paris The Past' which showcases a funky synthesizer that must have made Keith Emerson blush. Musically, the album has its share of good moments; however, to get to them, one must be prepared to endure the pompous depths of symphonic rock. This Pell Mell lineup features Cherry Hochdorfer of Frame fame. [2/5 Doug]
