Experience of local teaching
college developing courses/projects on the Web shows that sub-standard
'broadband' is a major constraint in terms of content availability to local
students/staff.
With the proliferation of online college classes,
it is important for the professor elsewhere to understand the flavour of online education
and to be reassured as to the intellectual and academic integrity of this
teaching environment. With the lousy connectivity and narrow bandwidth
experienced locally, it is important for professors to understand that unless
there is considerable improvement to the medium's characteristics, then there
has to be less reliance on web mediation for local consumption. Content is of
course readily available to the wider global audience.
Teams of students and national service teaching assistants are looking at
practical work arounds.
