How to set up KX drivers with Soundblaster Live 5.1 card and Cubase
The following method works for me. I am no technical whizz but I read the forums and did some trial and error and now have my setup working just fine. The following example gives one stereo input to cubase with latency as low as 2.66ms.
N.B. Once setup you will be restricted to a project sample rate of 48kHz.
Uninstall all soundblaster software
install kx drivers
open kx mixer by clicking on the icon on the bottom right of screen
select ins n outs . Unmute ac97 and push the faders up. (It is unmuted when the little dot is blue).
select ac97 . Press "ac97 reset" then select your source for recording (usually LineIn, or Mic). This is where you switch between different input sources to be recorded in cubase.
select . Heres the tricky part! Look for a panel called prolog and another called epilog. Connect (click and drag) the first two outputs from the prolog to the last two inputs of epilog
This connects "ac 97" to the kx asio inputs 14 & 15. (14 & 15 are chosen because they work properly in stereo.)
Disconnect (right mouse click while over the connection) the first two prolog to router connections.
This step will prevent the problem of hearing the input signal doubled over itself in cubase.

Close the KX Mixer. It is now set up.
Launch Cubase 5. Choose Options/Audio Setup/System.. (Cubase SX users choose devices/device setup../VST multitrack.) Under ASIO device choose kx ASIO. Press ASIO control panel and you can use the arrow up or down to change the latency. Try 5.33ms. Set Monitoring to tape type or record enable type (not global disable). Tip: Once you have finished all recording/tracklaying and are ready to mix, switch to a higher latency. This will enable your system to handle a lot more effects, plugins, etc
Choose Panels/VST Inputs. (SX users choose devices/VST inputs.) Activate only kxin14 and kxin15 deactivate any others. Choose ok if asked to remap. Save over your default setup. Enable a track for record. Load an effect. You can now record while hearing an effect and have no (very very small) delay!! VST instruments can also be played from a midi controller with the same low latency.
Go to the KX site and give them some money if you are happy. They are doing a fine job!
