Response to 9/11
Winds blowing
leaves flying
chaos ruling
voices screaming
then silence.
Hush. Hush.
Sorrow hangs in the air.
Nothin disturbs the silence
except for the sound of soft weeping
as the night closes in.

But the sun will rise again
and as the new dawn breaks,
someone will dry the tears,
and out of the ashes
those silenced voices will rise like the Phoenix,
reborn and renewed.

Forests' Revenge
Do not swing your ax so high!
Eyes are watching
that hold flames within,
burnin cold with despise.
Ears are listening
for any excuse, any reason.
Get out! You do not
belong here. You do not
deserve any mercy.
Shall we chop you down,
bit by bit?
Shall we saw off your feet
and watch you
crash to the ground?,br> We shall do nothing,
for we are stronger, wiser
and are comforted
by the fact that
you will destroy yourselves
in your own time.

What's the Worst That Could Happen?
I said I was nervous
My heart was a-tappin’
She said, “Don’t worry,
What’s the worst that could happen?”

I raised my eyebrow
At what she just said
And started to list things
That have run through my head

There could be a fire, tornado, or storm
I might stutter and lose my place
A wizard might come and turn me into a worm
Or someone might die in the middle of my case

The roof could fall in on top of me
Weirder things have happened
Blackbeard says, “Swab the deck!”
And I say “Ay Ay! Captain!”

The class could be abducted by aliens
Leaving me to take the blame
What about spontaneous combustion?
I could go up in one big flame

She laughed again
And patted my back
“Don’t worry,” she said
“Just don’t have a heart attack!”

The Dance of the Dragons
they soar above,
they soar below
masters of the sky

red and yellow,
green and blue
through the clouds they fly

their wings beat the air
their claws scratch the mountains
invisible to the eye

there are only two
who witness the dance
that is you and I

A Plea For Mother Earth
Our mother is dying
Something must be done
The world is choking
As you wish

Something must be done
The trees are dying
As you wish
The air is silent

The trees are dying
As they crash to the ground
The air is silent
Bring out your dead

As they crash to the ground
Babies cry out for their mommies
Bring out your dead
We need to make room

Babies cry out for their mommies
Tangled in nets to become stars
We need to make room
Only people matter

Tangled in nets to become stars
Oceans are crying out
Only people matter
Hunger that cannot be satisfied

Blue with sorrow
The world is choking
Somebody please help
Our mother is dying

Sleepy Time Blues
My eyes are drooping and my feet are draggin’
My head’s too heavy and my brain is saggin’
My eyes wanna close
My head wanna doze
A pile of blankets and a pillow of soft down
Lemme sleep, don’t make me frown

My feet’ll drag me to a quiet nook
And there I’ll steal time just like a crook
My brain goes loop da loop
While the birds go swoop and swoop
O Lord what I’d give for a sweet, tired bed
To lay down my sweet, tired head
Damn people, they make so much noise
Who the hell cares ‘bout being one of the boys
You can go out on the town
I’ll take that pillow of soft down
In the middle of a blanket pile
Suit me just fine for awhile

Cuz my eyes have drooped and my feet have dragged
My head has looped and my brain has sagged
There’s no turning back now
Somebody else can tell how
I came upon this little bed
And got to rest my poor, tired head

Friend and Protector
put your head in my lap
and i'll sooth you to sleep
i'll guard and protect you
while you dream so deep

the pain you hide in the day
comes rushing out at night
your body shivers and shakes
as your mind begins to fight

i stroke your arm gently
and whisper soothing words
they fly to your mind in the dream
like quiet little blue birds

do my words reach you?
i fear i do not know
but i see your body calm
as your mind begins to slow

the tempest for now is over
the pain remains the same
but you have someone with you
to help you play the game

Creatures of the Night
the nite is cold
the air is still
the moon is full and bright

she grabs her gloves
she grabs her cloak
wrapped around her tight

open the door
listen for the call
of the creature of the night

she hides her head
in the hood of her cloak
walks quickly to the trees

her movements are silent
her eyes are alert
her cloak blows in the breeze

a figure appears
its shadow at first
this animal is truly free

the fur lies still
the eyes glow bright
he stares at her cloaked back

she turns around slowly
she stares at the wolf
she knows he folled her tracks

she raises her arm
a flash of bright light
her cloak falls like a sack

it begins to snow
the wolf howls
a reply from the shadows of the woods

a second trots out
gloves in her mouth
she drops them by her hood

she howls in delight
and snaps at the snow
she never felt so good

The Fluffiest Corner
Someone erased it, I say,
The line between real and pretend.
They’re coming to take me away

To a cute little place by the bay
Where everything is just around the bend—
Someone misplaced them, they say.

My room is padded, it is to lay
Upon the fluffiest that is my end.
They’re coming to take it away!

That silly roommate, I must repay
For stealing my corner, my Godsend.
Someone replace it, I say!

So many fights every day,
The nurse’s patience is spent,
They’re coming to take me away

A solution found in a pile of hay,
A blanket obtained on lend.
Someone replaced it, they say,
When they came and took it away.

Blank Pages
blank pages
waiting to be filled
with words and drawings
and ideas and theories
a blank page is a newborn child
a pen is its experiences
leaving permanent marks
different shapes and colors
all have an effect

That's All Folks!
Like a fish taken out of water by a group of disinterested drones
Placed in the front of class with note cards detailing my torture.
I thought cruel and unusual punishment was outlawed
I’m drowning but no one seems to notice.

My performance isn’t satisfactory
I’ve been sentenced to death by pressing
No more weight for me, Giles Corey,
Thanks anyway.

I’ve stepped off the edge and need only look down to fall
Oops, I think I just looked down,
Look, there I go…falling…I’m Wile E.
Splat! I’m the perfect skipping stone.

I’m an emotional fault line
One slip and the china collection falls to pieces
Keep my hands low so they can’t see me shaking
Is this the part when the ground swallows me whole?

I’m on top of Mt. Everest without an oxygen tank
I knew I forgot something
Call the rescue team
I need to be airlifted out of here

Drop the piano on my head already
Cut to the roadrunner chase
That coyote’s a loser too
Why don’t you laugh at him for awhile?
