40 Years in a Heartbeat 6
Linda had just finished giving her ribbon cutting ceremony speech for the new park being built in River Run. She looked over at the dilapitated swings & recalled how hank used to push her on them really high. The memory made her smile. Tears began to fill her clear blue eyes when the memory of pushing Becky on the very same swings came to mind.

"Penny for your thoughts!"

Linda was afraid to turn around. She recognized the voice & was fearful that when she turned around it wouldn't be real. "Becky? Is that really you?"

"Goodness, Mother, it hasn't been that long since we have seen each other." Linda was speechless, which was a rarity. "I thought it was about time I came back to River Run & put some old ghosts to rest, so to speak. I haven't been back since Grammy's funeral. I missed you, Mother, you look well." Rebecca Anne looked just like her mother did, many people often remarked on it. "Aren't you going to say anything?"

"What? Oh..um..yes, my gosh, how I have missed you!! When did you get back in town?"

Becky looked at her mother's sad eyes, she had always thought her mother was the most beautiful woman she had ever seen. But she always looked so sad since her father's death. "I got here this morning, I ran into Uncle Jeff & he told me you would be here. I can't believe they are tearing down this park & building a new one?!"

"GIN-GER!!! Ginger, are you home?"

"What in the world are you screaming about, Jeff Metcalf?" Ginger couldn't help but notice the look of excitement on her handsome husband's face.

"You will never believe who I ran into while I was coming out of Brandstetter's?"

Ginger couldn't wait for Jeff to tell her, but thought she would torment him for a few minutes, if she didn't burst first. "President Reagan?..or Maybe it was Donald Duck? Wait, waitcould it have been Johnny Carson?"

"That's just fine, Mrs. Wisenheimer, I may not tell you at all now"

"Oh, Jeff, I was just teasing you. You seem so excited. Please tell me who you saw today!"

Jeff watched Ginger face as he told her he ran into his niece & that she was looking for Linda. "And Ginger, she truly looked happy!"

"Oh my, Jeff, this is going to thrill Linda. I have to call Linda. We have to have a celebration... maybe a welcome home party. I have to call & order a cake.."

Jeff just sat back, smiling & watched his wife, there was no stopping her when she was on a roll. She wouldn't have heard him anyway.
