Linda was at her wits end, Gina had asked her to watch Billy for the afternoon. She had taken Emma to get a new dress for the father-daughter dance at the school. The 3 older boys had went with Jeff & Stevie to see a movie. So that left Billy, who couldn't stand to be away from Becky. Phil had went to the paper to get a story in for the deadline & Linda was organizing her papers for a follow-up, when she noticed the "Terror Twins" (as the Haileys & Havels fondly refer to their 3-year-olds) were unusually quiet. She peeked her head around the corner to check on them. They were laying on the livingroom floor, Billy's hand had a firm grasp on Becky's medium brown pigtail. Becky was holding onto his shirt sleeve. They were sound asleep. There was a soft knock on the backdoor, Linda tiptoed to answer it. "Thank you so much, Linda, for watching Billy." Gina began as she walked through the door. Linda put her finger to her lips, "Sshhhh...they just fell asleep, would you like a cup of coffee?" whispered Linda. "I would love one, Emma is playing at your mothers house with Michael" Linda & Gina sat down in the kitchen & played catch-up. Gina just wished that Ginger & Judy were here, it had been so long since they had a girls night out. Judy had married Daniel Anderson, owner of the newspaper, a year ago & was extremely happy. Ginger had given birth to her 3rd child, Thomas Jeffrey Metcalf, in April of 1957. So they haven't seen much of each other. Gina & Linda got together quite a bit because Becky & Billy drove their mothers crazy saying each others name over & over till they got together. "So, Gina, are you & Charlie going to try again for a girl?" Linda inquired. "Oh no, I am sure of one thing, Charlie Hailey makes little boys." Linda about fell off her chair laughing. Gina joined in & soon the "Terror Twins" were awake. |
