Tommy 23
Ever since Sam told Tommy about her relationship with Derrick, he had been paying close attention to the golfer's location. He didn't tell Sam that he knew Derrick was in town for his tournament. Although knowing it was her job to know what is going on in the sports world he knew she knew already. But neither of them expected to see him while they were having their special evening out. Jeff had phoned Tommy earlier that week to tell him that he found out from an old buddy where the golf pros stay when they are in Florida. Jeff knew that Tommy should keep an eye out for this fellow.  Tommy never told Jeff anymore than he did the night they were walking back to Jeff's hotel, but his dad knew him so well he didn't have to go any further. Tommy thanked his dad for being so concerned.

He stood outside Derrick's hotel, waiting in the shadows. He wanted to insure that Derrick kept his hands to himself from now on. He watched Derrick get out of the rental car that the tournament offered its previous year winner. "Derrick, I think we need to have a talk about Samantha."
Derrick was startled by Tommy's presence. "We have nothing to talk about. I don't know what the little tramp told you about me, but I can assure you it is highly exaggerated."

Tramp! That made Tommy furious, he grabbed Derrick by the collar of his shirt & pulled him into the alley behind the hotel. It was so late out that the streets were nearly deserted. Derrick was so stunned by Tommy's reaction that he didn't have time to stop himself from being dragged back there. Tommy tossed Derrick against the brick building, "You ever go near Sam & I will hunt you down & make you suffer. I better not even see you walking down the same side of the street as her. Do I make myself clear?" Tommy had Derrick pinned against the wall, his normally warm welcoming features were twisted in such a frightening way that Derrick was scared to death, as he nodded his head. Tommy balled his hand up & cocked it back. "If you feel like hitting someone, why don't you take a shot at me right now?!" Tommy noticed that Derrick was cowering as far away from him as the brick wall would allow. "That's what I thought, my dad always told me that men who hit women were the biggest cowards around. I can see that he was right about that, among a lot of other things. Get the hell out of my face before I change my mind about bashing it in."

Derrick went scurrying off like a frightened animal given reprieve from an angry hunter. Tommy was sure that this wouldn't end up being his last encounter with Derrick McKinley. He hoped he was wrong, the next time he may not show any restraint.
