The Little Pig and the Fairy Queen.
Once upon a time, far away in the ancient woods the Wood Fairies lived. They were a very happy group of people. Very tiny and busy in the trees. They would fly and care for all the forest creatures. They were ruled by a very loving Queen and King. Both who cared for their people deeply. It was said that one could only rule if one lived completely in perfect love. The King could be seen often riding upon the antlers of the Great Stag and the Queen would be seen near the river with her court tending the flowers and telling tales to the young children. Telling tales of huge people that lived beyond the Great Forest. The fairy children would laugh at such strange creatures that the Queen would tell them. She taught many a lesson through her tales and glowed with loving energy.
One warm summer day, everyone in the Fairy Kingdom was busy throughout the forest and the King was overseeing them. The Queen was taking advantage of this busy time and had gone off by herself. She very rarely had time alone and this time she decided she would go someplace far and relax for a time. She flew quite far that day and could not hear one voice of her people. She settled onto a flower and dozed in the sunshine. Suddenly she heard a strange sound, she had not heard before. It was kind of a snuffling and grunting sound but sounded sad. She flew up from the flower to search out the source of that sound. It was not the snuffling and grunting that was strange to her tiny ears but the sadness in it. She finally came to a tiny pink four-footed creature shuffling along sadly. His ears were down and his nose nearly touched the dirt. She noticed sad tears wetting the ground as he walked along. She flew closer. “Little creature, what are you and why are you so sad?” She spoke in her tiny voice. The little creature looked up a moment and saw her and then sat on the ground dejectedly “I am a pig.” he said in a very small voice and then stood up and started walking along again. “But… little pig. You didn’t tell me why you are so sad.” She flew along beside the pig. The pig stopped again, sighing and sat down. “Why would you care about that?” He got up again and continued to walk. “Well, because I am the Fairy Queen and it is my job to see that no one in my Realm is sad.” The pig paused and looked up sideways at her. “Fine, then I will leave your Realm.” He got up and continued to walk again. “That is not what I meant little pig. I meant that I wish to help you so that you are not sad anymore.” She flew down to stand right in front of the little pig. She touched his nose gently. “Now please little pig, tell me why you are so sad. I want to help if I can.” The little pig sat down in front of her and looked at her up and down. He saw she was very pretty and she shone with an inner light that he had not seen before. He brighten a little just looking at her, but then sadness over took him again and he lowered his head. “I have always been sad. I don’t think you can change it because I don’t know how to be any other way.” he snuffled a little and a tear drop splashed down into the dirt. The fairy Queen looked at the little pig with wonder. “You have only ever been sad little pig. Even when you were with your mother?” The pig shook his head, “I never knew my mother, I was the runt of the litter and taken away and left to die. I just was too dumb, I guess to figure out what I was suppose to do so I just started walking.” The Queen sat down beside him and put her tiny arm around the little pig. “I got chased by some people and teased by children, but I just kept going.” He looked over at her to see if she was going to do something mean. For that was all he ever knew. She did something that he did not expect at all. She kissed him on his flat little nose. He grunted with surprise. “Little pig, you are right you have been through some very sad times but that is what happens when someone is not in the right place. But now you are.” The little pig looked surprised. “What do you mean?” The Queen took a breath and said. “You were not where you were suppose to be and now you have found me and so now you are where you are suppose to be.” She hugged him tight and as she did some of her fairy dust sprinkled onto him. He felt a strange tingle inside him and he didn’t feel as sad as before. His tears began to dry. “Little pig, will you come with me to my home and be my friend and help me to spread love and joy among my people.” The little pig looked at her with wonder. “Me? You want me?” his eyes grew very wide. “Of course I do. I think you are a very special little pig and I want you to live with us.” She stood up and hugged him again. “Let’s go home.” He looked puzzled, “How can we get there you fly everywhere and I am sure that you came quite away.” She giggled, “Oh that is the easiest. I just sprinkle you with more fairy dust and you think of one happy thought and you will fly like me.” He looked at her “A happy thought, what on earth is that.” She suddenly realized that might be a problem for someone who had known only sad things. “It is a thought that makes you feel warm and good inside.” The pig looked down as if deep in thought. The Queen sprinkled dust on him, just in case and suddenly a smile came to the little pig and he because to leave the ground slowly. “You have it little pig. You have a happy thought and she flew beside him guiding him to her home. “Yes I do my Queen and do you know what my happy thought is?” The Queen shook her head. “My happy thought is you.” and with that they both flew together to the Fairy Kingdom and the little pig lived happily ever after. From that day forth he never knew a sad thought again.
