My RANT

I GOT THIS IN EMAIL AND IT TICKED ME OFF:

Letter to the Editor:

Excuse me.

The Bush Administration's plans cuts to Food Stamps ($844 million),
student loans ($14.3 billion), Medicaid ($10 billion) and child
support ($4.9 billion). Bush's "Robin Hood in Reverse" policies will
enact $70 billion in tax cuts for the wealthy.

To seek to replace corporate greed with compassion and competence in
our federal government, will everyone please tell congress and senate you
do not approve?

Thank you.

DAVID AND ROSELYN ARE FRIENDS OF MINE FROM NEW ORLEANS, THEY ARE STREET MUSICIANS BY TRADE, AND I DARE SAY THEY PROBABLY HAVEN'T PAID TAXES FOR YEARS BECAUSE THEIR TRADE ALLOWS FOR THEM TO DO A LOT OF WORK "UNDER THE TABLE". SO IT'S A CLASSIC CASE OF THEM WANTING STUFF BUT NOT PAYING FOR IT.

SO I WROTE THEM BACK:

I know everyone is up in arms about this whole food stamp cuts and stuff. But speaking as someone who already pays almost $700 per MONTH in taxes, I'm wondering when it's OK for ME to ask for some relief? (And to be honest, I am actually only "middle class", nowhere near the "wealthy" folk you speak of.)
It has always annoyed me that I should have to pay for other people who should be doing their part and becoming self-sufficient members of society on their own. WHY should I be responsible for people who could be responsible for themselves? I see SL Start, a state funded company here in Spokane, WA, finding jobs for the mentally handicapped and folks who have mental issues all the time, they will even get these folks into training for those jobs if they need it. So at this point I see no reason for them not to be able to support themsleves when there are places that will even get them training and place them into Jobs!
Now, I don't agree that they should cut student loans. I myself had to take loans to go to school (which I am now repaying WITH INTEREST back to our lovely federal government -- i.e. They are making $$ off me, not the other way around) and I am FULLY AWARE that many kids don't have any other way to get education. What needs to happen more is that EDUCATION should be stressed so people could get useful skills to support themselves.
Now my grandmother is on Medicaid and I will admit that she deserves that, but if the government hadn't SQUANDERED all the money that was ALREADY paid into Social Security (which, I understand is where Medicaid comes from) from when MY GRANDFATHER worked and now my own Father, there wouldn't be an issue with this. IT'S NOT THE FAULT OF THOSE OF US WHO WORK OUR BUTTS OFF THAT THE GOVERNMENT SUCKS.

On the Child Support, I'm not sure what is "meant" by that, if you mean where the government is paying for kiddie medical cards and food stamps for them and paying child support to the domicilliary parent that their OTHER parent SHOULD be paying my big question is WHERE THE HECK ARE THEIR PARENTS AND WHY AREN'T THEY PAYING FOR THESE THINGS? Once again, not MY fault that some kid doesn't have the basics because their Parents weren't RESPONSIBLE.
I just wish each person would just take responsibility for THEMSELVES instead of crying to the GOVERNMENT for what they need. Whatever life you have is, atleast in part, your own doing. You make it or break it based on YOUR OWN actions.
I'm sorry if I sound crass. But I'm just tired of people taking from ME when I don't deserve to be "stolen" from, at gunpoint pretty much. (ever see what actually happens to people who don't pay their taxes??) When they should be, like me, making their own way in the world.
