I am an on-staff copyeditor for Writer’s Exchange E-Publishing (www.writers-exchange.com) and I work as the Managing Editor and Feature Story Writer for the Picket News Newspaper in Maryland. My work consists of interviews, hiring writers, editing, formatting, feature story writing, and much more. I also copyedit for various publishers and authors (see
clients).

My experience stems from that, as well as from my published books, numerous articles (write me for a list), professional book reviews, and columns (It's Only Ink! Children's Book Reviews).

    My services include:
  1. Manuscript evaluation- A broad overall assessment of your full ms., pinpointing strengths and weaknesses. Specific problem areas may be flagged, and general suggestions for improvement made--this evaluation is brief and does not provide a line-by-line advice on revision.
  2. Content editing- Focuses on structure, style, and content.
  3. Line editing- Editing at the sentence level, focusing on paragraph and sentence structure, word use, dialogue rhythms, etc., with the aim of creating a smooth prose flow.
  4. Light editing- Correction of common errors (grammar, spelling, punctuation), incorrect usages, logic lapses, continuity problems.
  5. Proofreading- Checking for typos, spelling/punctuation errors, formatting mistakes, and other minor mechanical problems.

    - Manuscripts are edited using MS Word tracking.
    - My turnaround time is fairly rapid, but this depends on the submitted manuscript (additional fees may be required), and the time of year. (i.e judging duties, holidays, and family duties)
    - If you want a line-by-line edit or content editing, this takes more time, thus increasing the turnaround time.

How to submit your manuscript...

Why hire me?

Everyone knows that when someone else reads your work, they tend to find edits, grammar, punctuation, etc. that was missed, even though you or others may have read and reread it several times. Writers are too close to their own work. Therefore, allowing others to read it helps catch all the problems.

The best person to proofread and edit your work is usually a stranger, because friends tell you what they think you want to hear. “Very good!” “I love it!”

I have learned a lot from paid editors and my writing has improved enormously. I enthusiastically accepted their comments, suggestions, and corrections because with them, my book(s) have become the best that they can be. Of course, I’ve learned that you don’t always have to agree with what an editor says. I am the kind of person that welcomes feedback. Please don’t hesitate to write me with concerns.
