"John Ray couldn't be with us. He got bit by a Copperhead."
"Plantin's been tough. Hot as hell in the morning and rains all afternoon."
"Mr. Billy's pushin'. Let's pick it up."
"Louis, Louis, the dang drag line's snagged. Go see what's holdin' her."
Work was tough. But life after work was not bad. There was a village with electricity, running water, indoor plumbing, churches, even tennis courts and more.
Lately, the Forest  has been calling me simply because of its aura. I've been riding past a back road sign proclaiming "Southern Forest Heritage Museum" for years.
I figured it to be a "rinky dink" side show open on Saturday sometimes. I looked it up on and sure enough it had credentials. Actually, there was an old train engine on the site, all the bait I needed to give it a try.
Spring Break was upon us and my grandson was with us.. I try to do something "educational" with him when he's here and a peek at the history  of the Southern Forest seemed like a good idea. Plus, I'd get a look at that old steam engine. But, the ride/trip is getting ahead of itself. Let's start at the Start. You know the drill, hit the Button.
