Jordan |
Go back to the start |
Jordan was the only country we went to that didn't have a ridiculous exchange rate... it was comparable to the pound. The main attraction of Jordan was that it contains the ancient city of Petra. If you have seen Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, you can see the city of Petra right at the end. Jordan also seemed to be the strictest country with regards to women covering up. On the ferry ride over to Jordan, the ladies on the tour were severly leered, drooled, and prodded at! I couldn't do much to defend them because I was busy throwing up over the side, thanks to something unsavoury that I had eaten the previous evening! The other cool thing about Jordan is that it is one of the quieter countries bordering the dead sea (by quiet I mean it isn't Israel/Palestine!) |

On our first day.... waking up in Aqaba. After our long ferry trip, we arrived at Aqaba and camped out on top of a hotel... I think it's the only place they could fit all fifty of us. This is the view we had the morning after.... |

The Ancient city of Petra Coming through the 'Siq' (an extremely windy and long canyon) on the way to the 'treasury', the first building in petra.... unfortunately I didn't get my AE metering right so you can't see through the crack in the middle. |

This is the treasury building at Petra, what you are meant to see through the glowing crack in the previous picture. |

hmmmm I guess we look a bit like tourists here. |

Alana and Kerin apply their sunscreen, with more of the amazing carved city of Petra in the background |

The ampitheatre at Petra, and the ubiquitious small boy on a donkey..... they're like people on bikes in Amsterdam... everywhere!!!!! |

An example of some of the amazing rock colours.... also an example of how to look like a tourist. |

Phew... this was right at the top of a windy trail. One skinned knee and ripped pants later we arrived at the 'Monastery' |

Looking for camping spots on our first travelling day in Jordan, we found this, what we think is an abandoned movie set... kool!! No one knew what movie it was for or who owned it but we camped here anyway. In the foreground you can see an overturned catapult. |

What did we do to amuse oursleves in the movie set? There were big ugly bugs everywhere so we had bug races. You can you see the excitement in this photo (but not the bugs!!) |
