Map of the Vanier Road Quarry area
Site Description and Birding Information: This large quarry area attract roosting gulls and waterfowl, as well as a few shorebirds. The birds often roost on the narrow strip of land between the two parts of the pond, so a scope is recommended. A second viewing area is the northern entrance to the quarry, about 0.3 km north on Vanier. This is the "business end" of the quarry, so be wary of truck traffic; and don't block the way.
Just north of the northern entrance, where the powerlines cross the road, there is an intermittent Segde Wren colony. They were not present in 2003.
