The Munroe Falls Weather Station was commissioned by the National Weather Service (NWS) in July 1996 although Weather records were begun on July 8, 1992. Daily observations are taken at 7:00 A.M. eastern time. This daily data is submitted to the NWS through the ROSA system in Charleston, West Virginia. The observation includes the following: maximum and minimum temperatures, total rainfall, total snowfall, snow depth on the ground and weather at the time of observation. Additional data is maintained for maximum wind gusts, direction and maximum and minimum barometric pressure. View our weather instruments.

The Cooperative Observers Climatological Network was created in 1890. The program is currently administered by the National Weather Service (NWS), a line office of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, an agency within the Department of Commerce. One of the responsibilities of the NWS is to take meteorological observations which are used to record the climate condition in the United States. The National Weather Service relies heavily on a vast network of cooperative observer volunteers to achieve this objective. The NWS determines where observations are needed and furnishes standard meteorological instruments to individuals who volunteer their time to record daily weather observations of the weather. Currently, there are about 8,000 volunteer observation stations in the nation. All cooperative observers submit a monthly report summarizing daily observations.
