Indonesian military flexes muscle on Aceh rebel anniversary
The Indonesian military has mounted a show of strength in Aceh province to try to
thwart attempts by separatist rebels to mark the 27th anniversary of their movement.
Troops staged helicopter and road patrols in a bid to prevent members of the Free
Aceh Movement (GAM) from raising rebel flags.
Indonesia's Antara news agency says soldiers took down several flags raised in the
Nagan Raya area in West Aceh.
Antara also says two soldiers were wounded in a clash with rebels in the
mountainous Indrapuri area in Aceh Besar district.
The troops were apparently trying to break up a rebel ceremony.
