FBI to investigate deaths in Papua
Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents will return to Indonesia this week to
investigate the killing of two Americans in Papua province last year, which has
strained ties between Washington and Jakarta.
Indonesian police have neither made any arrests, nor named any suspects in the
killings.
Gunmen had fired at a van carrying teachers from an international school owned by
PT Freeport Indonesia, which runs copper and gold mines in the Papuan mountains.
The case has been dogged by accusations that Indonesian troops were involved in the
attack, in which an Indonesian was also killed.
FBI teams have visited Indonesia twice before over the case.
