Indonesia braces for more terror threats
A senior Indonesian government minister says there are reports militant cells are
preparing fresh attacks and Indonesian security forces are preparing "for the worst" as
the New Year approaches.
Chief Security Minister Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, was speaking in Jakarta, on the
sidelines of the general conference of the Council for Security Cooperation in the Asia
Pacific.
He says Indonesia's security services must intensify their operations, because
Christmas and New Year's celebrations, as well as upcoming elections are a
vulnerable time.
Indonesia will hold parliamentary elections next year, as well as the country's
first-ever direct presidential vote.
Australia's Minister for Foreign Affairs, Alexander Downer, is in Jakarta for the security
conference.
