Indonesian troops kill nine more rebels in Aceh
Indonesian troops say they have killed nine more separatist rebels in Aceh province,
where a major campaign against the separatist movement is entering its sixth month.
A military spokesman says troops killed five Free Aceh Movement (GAM) rebels in
separate gunfights and seized two military assault rifles and ammunition.
On Saturday, soldiers killed four rebels in clashes in three districts.
The government placed Aceh under martial law in May and launched a huge offensive
to crush the GAM, which has been fighting for independence since 1976.
The military says more than 900 rebels have been killed since the start of its
campaign, along with 66 members of the security forces.
