Several dead after clashes in Indonesia's Central Sulawesi
province
Indonesian police have shot dead five suspects after a chase through the forests of
Central Sulawesi province following attacks on mainly Christian villages.
The clash followed an initial fight which left two other suspects dead and several in
custody.
Police say one more person may still be on the loose in forests, about a day's march
from three coastal villages that were attacked by masked raiders earlier this month.
Eight villagers died in those raids while two others died a few days earlier in a
separate attack.
Observers say there are concerns of a return to the Muslim-Christian violence which
killed about 1,000 people in the Poso district in 2000 and 2001 until a
government-brokered truce.
