Military reports heavy clash in Aceh
The Indonesian military says it has killed nine separatist rebels in a single clash in
Aceh province.
The dead reportedly included a local rebel commander.
The AFP news agency says the heavy toll indicates a military offensive now in its
sixth month in Aceh shows no sign of abating.
Latest Indonesian reports include a claim that Free Aceh Movement rebels have killed
three villagers who refused to treat a wounded guerilla.
The Indonesian military on May the 19th launched a huge offensive to crush the
separatist movement.
It says 900 guerillas have been killed, along with 66 members of the security forces.
It also says more than 1,800 rebels have been arrested or have surrendered.
