Fourteen policemen arrested in Ambon for alleged murder
AMBON, Maluku (ANTARA): Fourteen policemen linked to the fatal beating of a
17-year-old suspected thief, have been detained, police in the eastern Indonesian city
of Ambon confirmed on Friday.
The 14 allegedly tortured to death Syaiful Ibrahim, who has been accused of stealing
Rp 6 million (US$705) in cash and 54 grams of gold from a jewelry store in Batu
Merah shopping mall here, the city police spokesman, Lodewiek Soplanit, said.
"Accused of stealing the money and the gold over the weekend from a store in Batu
Merah, Syaiful was brought to a police office but there he was beaten to death,"
Soplanit said.
He said if the 14 policemen are found guilty, they would be dismissed from their job.
