Samudra to appeal to Supreme Court
DENPASAR, Bali: Convicted Bali bomber Abdul Aziz, alias Imam Samudra, will
challenge the provincial high court verdict upholding his death sentence, a lawyer
said.
Samudra's chief lawyer, Khadar Faisal Ruskanda, said on Wednesday his team
would prepare an appeal to the Supreme Court after they received a copy of the high
court's decision.
"We will file the appeal as soon as we obtain the copy," he said.
The Bali High Court rejected the appeal filed by Samudra, the convicted mastermind
of the Oct. 12, 2002, terrorist attack in Bali that left 202 people dead, mostly
foreigners.
The court had earlier rejected the appeals of 10 other Bali bombing convicts, including
Amrozi, who also received a death sentence. It is still hearing appeals from three
other bombing convicts.
Ruskanda said he believed the other convicted terrorists would appeal to the Supreme
Court.
The Denpasar District Court has sentenced 29 suspects in the bombings to between
three years in jail and death. -- JP
