Police warn of new terrorist attacks
JAKARTA (DPA): Indonesian police warned on Tuesday of new bombing attacks in
the country during New Year celebrations that could be committed by terrorist
suspects still on the run.
National police chief Gen. Da'i Bachtiar urged the community to improve their
alertness, while security authorities would tightly guards all strategic places to
anticipate a possible new terror attack.
"Based on analysis, those wanted terrorist suspects may carry out more attacks. But
we will continue to detect their existence," Da'i told reporters.
He reminded the community not to play down various information on potentially
serious security threats before and during the New Year festivities.
"We shouldn't underestimate. We have to improve our vigilance," Da'i asserted. "The
New Year Eve may be used as the right moment by terrorist groups to carry out
attacks."
Nevertheless, Da'i assured the public that police forces will guard all strategic places,
such as shopping malls, entertainment centres and other public facilities.
Bachtiar did not reveal the names of terror groups still at large, but he previously
disclosed several terror suspects, including two Malaysian bomb-makers, Azahari
Nurdin and Noordin Mohammad Top, and three Indonesian nationals.
