CENTRAL SULAWESI
Food Security and Agriculture
From 20 to 21 October, CWS distributed food in South Pamona sub-district (covering
Korobono, Pendolo, Boe, Pandayora, Uelene and Mayoa villages). A total of 4,930 kg
of red beans, 2,465 kg of vegetable oil and 24,450 kg of rice were distributed to 493
families.
On Tuesday (28 Oct.), CWS distributed food for 154 families in the sub-districts of
Mori Atas (covering Mayumba, Tiwaa, and Taliwang) and 270 families in North
Pamona (covering Peura, Dulumai, Saojo, Sawidago, Sulewana, Sangira, and Sangira
Lena). Each family received 50 kg of rice, 10 kg of red beans and 5 kg of vegetable oil.
From 28 to 29 October, CWS distributed seeds and tools for 391 families in North
Lore sub-district (covering Watumaeta, Wuasa, Wunga, Dodolo, Siliwanga, Alitupu,
Winowanga, Kaduwaa, Kalimago, Maholo, and Tamadue).
Health
IMC continued its Information Education Campaign (IEC) through Posyandu sessions
and radio programmes in Poso Kota and North Pamona sub-district. At Posyandu
sessions. The campaigns focused on a Mother and Child's Health booklet, measles,
immunization and diarrhoea, and benefited 886 people. Meanwhile, on radio
programmes, the campaigns focused on measles, tetanus neonatrum and hepatitis.
Shelter and Non-food Items
On Monday (27 Oct.), Mercy Corps has signed agreement to fund a non-food items
programme with a consortium of 5 LNGOs, YB2M, in Pantangolemba, Pinedapa,
Saatu and Madale villages. 22 families (116 persons) will benefit from the assistance.
Education
On Monday (27 Oct.), Mercy Corps has signed agreement to fund an Education
Support programme with an LNGO, Yayasan Bina Lingkungan, in Poso Kota
sub-district. 265 students from SDN 14 Madale, SDN 01 Poso Kota and SDN 03
Poso Kota will benefit from the assistance.
Other
Mercy Corps also signed agreement to fund a Peace Building programme (a marathon
running competition from Tagolu to Tegal Rejo village) with the Event Committee in
Tegal Rejo. 100 people will participate in the race.
MALUKU
Assessment
CARDI staff visited two schools in Kemal village on Seram Island to conduct meetings
and discussions on children and youth activities with the local community. Most
urgent needs of the school include classrooms, sports as well as water and sanitation
facilities.
CARDI team visited Air Besar, Air Salobar, Seri, Hutumuri and Negeri Lima villages to
have meetings with youths to help set up joint priorities for vocational workshops,
recreation and sports activities.
An internal auditor for Mercy Corps Portland met with several LNGO partners to
assess the outcome and benefits experienced by community from the projects funded
by Mercy Corps.
Food Security
AcF conducted training on utilizing cashbooks for beneficiaries of income generating
programmes in Ambon.
Health
Through Maluku Province Health Department, WHO conducted mental health training
for 36 participants (doctors and nurses) from all districts and Ambon municipality. A
WHO consultant from Jakarta also participated in the training.
IMC distributed anti-worm medicine to 115 children in an elementary school in
Waesala, and 115 children in Alang Ausuade of Seram island. IMC also treated 1,597
people in Buru and Seram islands.
Water and Sanitation
CARDI is finalizing the implementation of water and sanitation facilities in 22 school
sites. This is part of CARDI's holistic community rehabilitation approach. CARDI
reported that to date under its school rehabilitation programme, 3,909 children now
have access to MCK facilities and hygiene education in 22 schools in Kairatu, Taniwel
and Waesala sub-districts on West Seram of Seram Island.
Education
SC UK conducted a one-day workshop in Pelauw village of Central Maluku district on
SC UK's education project activities. Participants included education officials, school
principals, school supervisors and teachers.
CARDI conducted training on capacity building for welfare committee members in
West Seram sub district of Central Maluku district.
Mercy Corps funded an LNGO, Yayasan Marien Mandiri, in West Seram sub-district
on Seram island to distribute school equipment. 389 persons benefited from the
programme.
NORTH MALUKU
Education
WVI distributed the 4th edition of its magazine to 43 elementary schools in Tobelo,
Galela, Kao and Malifut sub-district from 22 to 28 October.
WVI distributed material for renovation 2 Happy Houses in Tobelo and Galela
sub-districts and monitored the activities in 4 Happy Houses in Galela, Kao and
Malifut sub-districts from 23 to 28 October.
WVI distributed textbook to 2 Happy Houses in Galela sub-district on Monday (27
Oct.).
Under its Engaging Activity for involving Children and Young People in Building
Respectful and Save Community (ENACT) programme, SC UK conducted
assessments in 5 villages in Kao, Malifut, Tobelo and Galela sub-districts, and
conducted survey to obtain information on number of population, main source of the
villages, number of drop out children, human resources and social protection issues,
as well as health, education, economy, transportation, communication facilities in the
villages.
Economic Recovery and Infrastructure
Cardi is starting its school reconstruction programme on Saturday (20 Oct.). For the
purpose of this programme, CARDI compiled assessment data of schools in Jailolo,
Sahu, Ibu, Bacan, Wst Gane, Obi and Loloda sub-district.
Other
Under its Informed Decision Making (IDM) programme, CARDI conducted a radio
talkshow on returnees from North Sulawesi on Wednesday (22 Oct.). The Head of
North Maluku Provincial Social Department and Head of Noth Maluku Police Resort
were the guest speaker. The second talkshow on North Maluku Community
Empowerment was conducted on Friday (24 Oct.).
