Holiday Ideas And Suggestions

A simple list of things you can do for yourself and others to make this the best Chistmas Ever! Here

START A FAMILY TRADITION
Start a family tradition this year!  Traditions are something that will last a life time and stick with your children.  Traditions can be something as simple as opening 1 gift on Christmas eve or going to tree farm and picking out that special tree.  Every family should have something that is unique to them.

CREATE SOME MEMORIES

  • Plan a time in the day when the whole family is home to open the doors of an advent calendar.
  • Make it a ritual to light the Christmas tree each evening.
  • Remember friends or acquaintances who cannot go out and offer a small, decorated Christmas tree.
  • Set some family time for preparing Christmas or holiday cards, your yearly family picture, and addressing the cards. Also offer to help a neighbor or friend who cannot do these tasks alone.

DO YOU HEAR WHAT I HEAR?

  • Whenever you're home, put on a CD or the radio and listen to Christmas music. Back in 1989; I made a cassette of my favorite Christmas songs and gave one to each of my brothers and sisters [13 total] as a gift that year. We all still listen to it during the holiday season. My children are teenagers now but still remember being rocked in the evening with only the christmas tree lights on while listening to these songs. I hope they will always think of "home" when they hear them played on the radio etc... thru-out the upcoming years. I know as a mother I remeber those all too precious times that pass to quickly. *wink
  • Check the TV schedules ahead of time so you don't miss the Christmas specials.  "Nestor" and "Noel" are some of our family favorites that usually can be seen on ABC's Family Channel's 25 Days Of Christmas showing. I did daycare for a few years and set my VCR to record these for those late night viewing when no other christmas cartoons were on etc... and to also share with other neices and nephews who did not have cable yet .. nor the time to watch these. *wink
  • Collect some of the classic movies with Christmas themes, such as "Miracle on 34th Street", "A Christmas Story", "It's a Wonderful Life", "Scrooge", or even "The Santa Clause". Each year their tends to also be a video you can rent with the season in mind.

By keeping things simple, you'll find that you can enjoy the season, the lights, and the traditions with family and friends without getting tired out in the process. Merry Christmas!
