larimar

Larimar is a rare and beautiful gemstone
that has been found in only one location on earth.
The stone varies in color from green to blue,
it resembles the clear blue waters of the Caribbean Sea.

Above Captain Nemo said, "okay"
(five, four, three, two, one), just like in the song
Sarah Brightman sings.
Then he raised his hand and waved.
Captain Nemo let us walk on the top
of his Submarine Nautilus,
but did not open the hatch to let us onboard ...
"Hoy es adiós, manana quizas
Se que tu vas a volver", he said.
Then he dived into the waves
under the surface so crystal clear....
.
P.S. .
Captain Nemo and his men built Nautilus on a desert island
(maybe it was here !!! )
in total secrecy by ordering components and materials
from disparate sources and arranging their delivery
to a variety of covert addresses.
The design was entirely Nemo’s,
based on the engineering knowledge he had gained from
extensive study in London, Montreal, Paris, Warsaw and New York.
We noticed that there was no periscope ! ! !
(these would not come into use for more than three decades.)
For use while surfaced, a small, flat deck fitted
with removable manropes was installed on top,
and this could be accessed by a hatch from below.
Nemo and his first mate frequently use this platform
for celestial navigation as described by Jules Verne.
( this is a platform I am standing on..... see picture above,
more about Nemo when we will come back. )

Some info on Dominican Republic.
.
.
Explored and claimed by Columbus on his first voyage in 1492,
the island of Hispaniola became a springboard for Spanish conquest
of the Caribbean and the American mainland.
In 1697, Spain recognized French dominion over the western
third of the island,
which in 1804 became Haiti.
The remainder of the island, by then known as Santo Domingo,
sought to gain its own independence in 1821,
but was conquered and ruled by the Haitians for 22 years;
it finally attained independence as the Dominican Republic in 1844.
A legacy of unsettled, mostly non-representative,
rule for much of its subsequent history was brought to an end in 1966
when Joaquin Balaguer became president.
He maintained a tight grip on power for most of the next 30 years
when international reaction to flawed elections forced him
to curtail his term in 1996.
Since then, regular competitive elections have been held
in which opposition candidates have won the presidency.
Puerto Plata (Port of Silver),
130 miles northwest of Santo Domingo,
is a popular resort development
with breathtaking views from the top of
