R.I. Dept. General Order No. 1, Series April 15, 2001

1.)     I wish to thank all the members of the Rhode Island Department for their support in again selecting me for the position of Department Commander for 2001-2002. I want to thank in these orders, the work done by the Department Auxiliary President and the Department Auxiliary Secretary/Treasurer for an outstanding job in organizing the 117th Department Appomattox Day Encampment. The results of the encampment placed several challenges before this Department and it should prove to be an interesting year.

2)     I am hereby announcing my Department Appointments for the 2001-2002 year. The following Brothers are hereby appointed in these positions within the Department.

3.)     I am hereby creating the Department Website and Electronics Committee. This committee shall assist the Department Website Coordinator in all responsibilities concerning the Department website and electronic equipment owned by the Department. I hereby appoint Brother Scott Caron as the chair of the committee with the following brothers as members: Leo F. Kennedy, Michael Kennedy, and Ken Lucier.

4.)     I hereby reappoint Brother Ken Lucier as a Department Aide to assist the Grave Registration Officer in continuing the Medal of Honor project.

5.)     The Department shall observe the 2002 Union Defenders Day with the 9th Annual Civil War Exposition at the Warick Mall in February 2002.

6.)     At this time the Department monthly officers meeting shall occur on Tuesdays rather than the 2nd Wednesday of each month. I encourage each Camp Commander to participate in these meetings.

7.)     I hereby instruct the Department Graves Registration Officer to create a special committee to investigate and report on the grave site conditions of Ambrose E. Burnside, George S. Greene, and Issac P. Rodman.

8.)     In order to effeciently communicate the individual Camp Memorial Day Observances, I hereby request that each Camp Commander forward to the Department Chief of Staff a notice of the date, time, and location of each Camp's services.

9.)     I hereby request that the Department Council meet in earnest to begin developing an investment mission for the Department and that this mission statement be completed and presented to the Department at the 118th Department Encampment in 2002.
