GAME #2
Wednesday, September 3
The Cowboys opened the scoring in the top of the second inning, scoring two runs on a throwing error.  Catcher Craig Pearce led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a walk to shortstop Doug Kane.  Two outs later both runners scored on a ground ball that pitcher Mike Halligan hit that was thrown away.  Battersea responded immediately, tying the game in the bottom of the inning.  First baseman Mike Paul reached base on a throw that sailed wide of first base.  Centre fielder Jason Moodie followed with a bunt, which was also misplayed, allowing the runners to advance to second and third.  Designated player Lance Ubdegrove then followed with a two RBI single to right centre field to tie the game.  The Cowboys took the lead in the third inning, again scoring two runs.  Right fielder Tim Murphy led off the inning with a double down the left field line.  Two outs later Pearce singled to left field, scoring Murphy, and then advanced to second on an error.  Kane then followed with a single to drive in Pearce.  Again Battersea responded in the bottom of the inning.  Catcher Tony Switzer hit a one out double to right field and scored when Paul hit a ground ball that again was thrown away.  In the fourth inning, the Cowboys extended their lead to 5-3 on a solo homerun by Halligan.  The score remained the same until the top of the seventh inning, when the Cowboys were able to push seven runners across the plate.  Centre fielder Jeff Hannah led off the inning with a bunt single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Murphy.  Left fielder Pat Severin then followed with a single to left field to score Hannah.  Glen Williams was then entered to run for Severin.  Second baseman Jon Swaine then hit a two run homerun to left centre field to score Williams.  Singles by Pearce and Kane led to a pitching change for Battersea as Mike Paul entered the game.  Pinch hitter Adam Lake then hit into a fielder's choice before third baseman Jon Peters drew a walk to load the bases.  Halligan followed with a grand slam, his second homerun of the game, to finish the scoring for the Cowboys.  Battersea scored once in the bottom of the seventh and left the bases loaded as their rally fell short.

GAME #3
Friday, September 5
This game of the series was dominated by pitching, with both teams leaving runners in scoring position when the pitchers came up big.  The Cowboys, who left  a total of nine runners on base, had the first chance to score in the top of the second inning when they had runners on first and second with two out.  However the next batter hit a line drive to left centre field that was caught by the left fielder to retire the side.  After the Cowboys again stranded runners at first and second in the third inning, Battersea had their first chance to score in the bottom of the third.  Pitcher Kirk Sudds led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice by right fielder Ryan Dixon.  Cowboys pitcher Jon Swaine was able two strike out the next to batters to retire the side.  In the fifth inning, the Cowboys had the first two runners reach base before their rally stalled again.  Second baseman Kevin Gauvreau reached base on an error and moved to second on a bunt single by centre fielder Jeff Hannah.  Sudds came through for Battersea and retired the next three batters to end the threat.  In both the bottom of the sixth and the bottom of the seventh Battersea had two runners on base with two outs.  In the sixth inning, Swaine got out of the jam when first baseman Mike Paul hit a deep ball to centre field that was caught just short of the fence.  In the seventh, a soft line drive to second ended the Battersea rally.  In the top of the eighth inning, right fielder Tim Murphy led off the inning with a solid single up the middle.  Murphy advanced to second on a ground out by first baseman Pat Severin and then to third on a passed ball.  Swaine then came to the plate and hit a slow roller towards the third baseman.  Murphy broke on the play and the ball was mishandled by the third baseman, allowing Murphy to score the first run of the game and for Swaine to reach base safely.  Catcher Craig Pearce then single to left field to put runners at first and second for shortstop Doug Kane.  Kane followed with an RBI single up the middle to make the score 2-0.  In the bottom of the eighth inning Battersea started a rally when shortstop Mike Tye led off the inning with a base on balls.  Swaine was able to retire the next two batters on fielder's choices and forced Paul to groundout to shortstop to end the game.
