Moscow came out quick and hard against East Side Mario's starter Bob
Finucan, scoring five runs in the first inning. After retiring the
first batter of the game on a strikeout, centre fielder Chris Gaffney started
the rally with a double. The next batter, second baseman Joe Reid,
then tripled to right centre field to score the opening run of the game.
Starting pitcher Greg Garrity was the next batter and he reached base on
a walk. Catcher Chris Reid then knocked in the second run of the
game with a double, scoring his brother Joe Reid. Third baseman Corey
Brooks came to the plate and delivered a two run double to left field past
the diving fielder that scored both Garrity and Reid. Left fielder
Colin Tryon delivered the final run of the inning on an RBI single to right
field. Finucan held Moscow to five hits over the remaining six innings,
allowing two base runners in one inning only in the seventh. Garrity
allowed only three hits, two of them coming in the second inning on singles
by first baseman Kurt Clark and shortstop Ken Spicer. Spicer added

Game #5
Friday, September 7
Moscow used two big offensive innings on Friday night to move into
the Loughborough Fastball League finals with a 7-3 victory and a 4-1 series
win. In the bottom of the first inning, catcher Chris Reid reached
base on an error to lead off the game. Designated player Andrew Plumley
followed with a single, as did second baseman Joe Reid, which scored the
first run of the game. Centre fielder Corey Brooks then delivered
a two run double that gave Moscow an early 3-0 lead. East Side Mario's
scored in the top of the fourth inning when left fielder Brad Cashman singled
to lead off the inning and moved to second one out later when pitcher Kurt
Clark was walked. Right fielder Paul McNeill then hit an RBI single
to centre field to score Cashman. East Side Mario's threated again
in the fifth inning, however two contraversial calls by the umpires took
the steam of the rally. Centre fielder Bill McIlroy reached first
on an infield single to lead of the inning. First baseman Bob Finucan
then followed with a single. Second baseman Adam Kyle then laid down
a beautiful bunt up the first base line. Moscow fielded the ball
and attempted to throw to first base but the throw hit the runner in the
arm. The umpire ruled this to be interference on the runner, called
the runner out and moved the other runners back to their respective bases.
The next batter, Cashman, then hit a ground ball to the infield.
The throw went to third base and appeared to pull the third baseman off
of the base, however the runner was again called out. Moscow immediately
responded in the home half of the fourth inning when they struck for four
more runs on five hits. Again Chris Reid started the rally, this
time with a single. Again Plumley and Joe Reid followed with singles,
to score Chris Reid. Pitcher Greg Garrity then followed with a two
run triple to right centre field. Their final run of the inning came
on a sacrifice fly to right field by third baseman Jason Sutton.
East Side Mario's attempted a seventh inning comeback but fell short.
Finucan led off the seventh with a single. One out later Cashman
was hit by a pitch, moving Finucan to second. After a second out,
Clark hit a deep blast to right field for a two run triple to end the scoring.
