Game #1
Monday, August 13
Sunbury exploded for eight runs in the first inning off of Napanee
starter Dan Wallwork. Left fielder Terry Orr drove in the first run
of the game with an RBI single that scored centre fielder Paul Tolles,
who had led off the inning with a single. Wallwork then loaded the
bases with two out but appeared to be out of the inning on a ground ball
to shortstop, but the ball was misplayed, allowing another run to score
and the inning to continue. Wallwork then walked right fielder Jason
Norman and first baseman Dan Irwin, both with the bases loaded, scoring
two more runs. The big hit of the inning came off of Tolles in his
second plate appearance. Tolles blasted a 2-0 pitch to straight away
centre field for a grand slam home run. Noel McNeill came on in relief
of Wallwork and held the Sunbury bats relatively quiet for the remainder
of the game. Napanee scored their lone run of the game in the top
of the fourth inning. Catcher Tyler Robinson scored the unearned
run on a throwing error. Napanee also had their only hit of the game
in the fourth inning, when McNeill hit a single to left field. Sunbury
responded in the bottom of the fourth inning scoring two runs to make the
score 10-1. Orr reached base with a double and later scored on a
fielding error for the first run of the inning and shortstop Darryl Barker
scored the sceond run after he reached base on a walk and then scored on
a sacrifice fly by pitcher Craig Hollingsworth. Sunbury ended the
scoring in the bottom of the sixth inning when Barker hit an RBI double
that scored catcher Cory Gee, who had tripled to lead off the inning.
