'Beta' Type Low Temperature Stirling Engine

I found this basic design by Penn Clower on the Steam & Engine of Australia website and thank him for making his information available on the Web. I made a number of changes to simplify the construction for myself, as this was the first working model I built on a newly acquired and modified Taig lathe. I also have access to a solid modeling CAD programme, so I proceeded to make detailed component models and drawings to prove out my design changes. The difference between his design and my version can be seen by visiting www.steamengine.com.au

A package of drawings, parts and material list, and suggested construction procedures ( all in .PDF format - readable by Adobe Acrobat Reader) is available. Email me at lenwinn@rogers.com if you are interested in getting the package. I will email you a .ZIP file or snail mail a set of photocopies, your choice. If you want photocopies snail mailed, send me $5 to cover the cost of reproduction and postage.

Disclaimer (Weasel Words..Fine Print etc.)

This engine works fine, (I have built 2) but whether your version will work will depend on many things, which are not controllable simply through a set of drawings and instructions. The drawings do not show tolerances, you will have to apply common sense and your own machining expertise to achieve success.
