The Kolonie Santo Ângelo - Brazil
The Colony Santo Ângelo was created in 1855 and started to receive the first german immigrants on the 1st of November, 1857. In 1875 it had an area of 55 000 hectares and a population of 4 000. Today it corresponds to the municipty of Agudo and Paraíso do Sul and some areas of Dona Francisca and Cachoeira do Sul.
It was to this colony that came many of my ancestors from Germany (Trapp, Buske and Hollweg). Another immigrant that established there and later, moving to Porto Alegre, founded a company that today is the biggest brazilian multinational was Johannes Gerdau, pioneer of the Gerdau Group.

In 1995 was published the book "História da Colônia de Santo Ângelo - Vol. I" (History of the Colony of Santo Ângelo - Vol.I), by William Werlang. Besides telling the history of the region, the book has many biographies and the genealogy of more than 2000 people from this region. Research on family sources, on the Public Archives of RGS, on microfilms from the Latter Day Saints Church and the William Werlang's book had allowed to build a genealogical tree of more than 3500 people interconnected that have lived or have originated on the Colony Santo Ângelo.
