My family descended from Fred Michael (1783) and Victoria Trapp (1786), who emigrated from Germany to Upper Canada. Fred died in Upper Canada in 1865, Victoria died in 1846. They had four sons- Ferdinand, Ludwig, August and John. This is as far back as I have information. I will not list the information I have in between my immediate family and Fred and Victoria, this stems from their son John. If anyone wishes I can fill it in,in more detail, as I do have it. In summary however the family branched off into Cooperstown, Wisconsin, Dodge Centre, Minnesota, and Benson County, South Dakota( USA), Saskatchewan, Canada.
My immediate family is as follows: Orin Ernest Trapp(1927) of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan married Ellen Lucille Dodge (1929) of Middleton, Nova Scotia in 1947. They retired in Middleton, Nova Scotia. They have seven children.
I hope this information is helpful and look forward to any
information that stems from Fred and Victorias' other children Ludwig, August,
and Ferdinand or information that predates Fred and Victoria Trapp from Germany.

The family folklore has it that our Trapps were originally
vonTrapps and strongly suspect the folklore is correct. From my research
I do not think that there is any close connection to the famous vonTrapp
singing family, if there is a connection it would be a distant cousin.
Christian Trapp and his wife Eva Margaret Koontz (there
are several spellings for the name Koontz) arrived in the United States
probably sometime between 1845 and 1850. They came with at least
three children Joseph David b 1839, Frank J. b 1841 and Eva b. 1845.
The three children list they birth place as Germany and sometimes I have
seen it New Bavaria. Apparently Christian died either before they
reached America or shortly there after, because I find his wife Eva marring
a John Klipp (Clipp) in mid 1850. From records I find that the Trapps
first went to an area close to Cincinnati, Ohio and by 1850 were in Mason
Cty, Ky.
I am a descendent of the son Joseph David and can
account for all of his descendents. I have searched out Frank and
Eva's (the daughter) families. I also have searched out the Klipp
(Clipp) family. Two things come from this search. One the name
was originally vonTrapp and secondly there is some distant relation to
the von Trapp singers. No one seems to know exactly where
the family orginated from in the old country. If
you have any information on my Trapps or if you have any suggestions please
let me know.

The story of the Trapp name in my family is a mystery. Emma Trapp was one of three sisters who emmigrated with their mother to Michigan, USA in 1894. Their mother's brother came too--but I do not know if they were together. The mystery is that the the other sister's names were HISCHKE, and I have no clue as to why Emma's name was different. Did she marry once before coming over? Did her mother marry a Trapp before she married a Hischke? I have been unable to turn up any good clues.
Emma's mother was Johanna Guetersonke. She was born in 1847, town unknown. She married August Hischke, who apparently died before they emmigrated. I have found nothing about him anywhere. My grandmother, Albertine, was born in Wiesenthal--I am not sure which one; it was probably the one closest to Gross Tuchen, since that's where she was baptised. This info comes from church records here in Michigan. Unfortunately, I can't find any such info about Emma Trapp.
One thing I can say is that so far, all of my Pommeranian ancestors came from Kreis Butow and Kreis Stolp. And the towns were pretty close together.

I am descended from Johann Gottlieb Trapp (July 2, 1810-January 14, 1900), who was known simply as Gottlieb Trapp from at least 1860. I do not know where he was born in Germany, but by 1854 (when one of his daughters was born) he was living at Ratzebuhr, Kreis Neustettin, Pommern, where he, his wife Caroline (nee Walter) Trapp (1818-1906) and their children lived until Gotlieb, Caroline and their youngest children emigrated to the U.S.A. in late 1872. By late 1873 they were living in Belknap Township, Presque Isle County, Michigan, where they homesteaded and lived the rest of their lives.Gottlieb was apparently a tenant farmer and shepherd in Pommern. Familytradition relates that a brother to Gottlieb emigrated to the U.S. before he did and settled in Illinois for a time. Gottlieb and Caroline (Walter) Trapp had nine children, seven of whom lived to adulthood.
1) Julius (January 9, 1839-September 21, 1913). Immigrated in 1881 to join rest of familiy in Michigan.
2) August (December 14, 1841-December 26, 1907). Immigrated in 1871; soon in Michigan.

My family origins were from Maryland and my ancestor Johann Trapp arrived with the ship Luise from Bremen, entering Baltimore on 2 Oct 1843. The steerage list shows him to be 25 years of age, single, a mason, no luggage and his last permanent address was Turnheim. I cannot find Turnheim (perhaps is Türkheim), but his citizenship paper shows Bavaria. The passenger list shows numerous people from Turnheim, including Magdalena Beck, age 22, a servant, whom he married. I have family history via a geneologist, and he was unable to find any record of Johann Trapp, but found Magdalena's ancestors records back to 1600's and she was born in Gerhardshofen.

My first known Trapp ancestor was Wilhelm Trapp , married to Louise Catharina Treichel. They had a children in Schwessin called August Heinrich Gottfried Trapp (* 28 aug 1828). Strangely from 1790 to 1838 August Trapp is the only person with the surname Trapp registered in Schwessin, later they moved to Khotlow in the same Kreis Köslin.
August Gottfried Trapp married Emilie Buske and with their daughter Caroline left their hometown in Pommerania going to Brazil. They arrived in Porto Alegre, Brazil on December 11th 1868 with the ship Isabel , spent a few days on the city and left on December 19th. They headed to the Colony of Santo Ângelo (now Agudo), where thay arrived on January 9th 1869.
Sometime later they moved to Santa Cruz, lived in Costa da Serra (Candelária) for more than 10 years and finally established in Formosa, at the Colony of Dona Francisca. Besides their daughter Caroline they had more 6 children (2 men, 4 women), one of them stillborn. From these 7 children we only know 3 names:
