These essays cover a wide variety of liberal issues, from redistribution of wealth to capital punishment, from economics to gun control. They all come from the excellent Blue Fish archive of essays, which covers issues like right wing politics, religion, and ethical quandaries such as abortion, etc. as well as liberal politics. To see all of Blue Fish, click here. I run it, so e-mail me at thomasash@mac.com if you want to submit an essay of your own on any liberal issue so it can appear here.
Actually, there's a whole essay on it in the list below (A Definition of Liberalism.) But if you want a brief answer, I'd first say that by liberalism I include the whole left-wing spectrum. This if the accepted meaning in America, even though in European countries a 'liberal' is often a left-leaning member of the centre, with a particular interest in civil rights, as opposed to an out-and-out socialist. (In Russia, in fact, the fascist party goes by the name 'Liberal Democrats'!) The essays here, then, cover all left-leaning opinion, and should provide useful information for any liberal or left-winger. |
