You Should be Glad

You should be glad to find a moderate bit of complexity or difficulty on a hand where you're declarer -- for two reasons. First is that this is what makes bridge an interesting enough game-- some like that word challenging, so a challenging enough game -- to attract literally millions of devoted followers. And the second reason is that it's just these moderate complexities that allow you to move ahead of less astute confreres.
Of course, if you're slightly overbid, you won't be overjoyed at uneven splits or unhappy surprises. And I guess we all have kicked away makable contracts on bad luck that we didn't prepare for or didn't realize we could recover from. So it goes. But you should be glad with slightly difficult hands, requiring a bit of care and intelligence. You bring them home and those are the hands you can treasure.
